NYC recommendations, anyone?

Hey all,
Caly and I are going to visit her parents in New York in a couple of months, and we'll be going into NYC for a couple of days. For those of you who have been there or live nearby, do you have any recommendations for fun things to do/see and good restaurants? I visited a few years ago and loved it but of course didn't get to see half of what I wanted to.
We're definitely going to the Museum of Natural History and I'd like to go to the Empire State Building and stroll through more of Central Park.
Thanks in advance!

When TG's parents came for a visit we took them on the greyline / circle line tour. It was great!
I have also heard Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum if very cool.

also, we always go through Priceline to get a hotel for TG's sister when she wants to stay in the city for a night. We have always gotten one mid town for $125 or less a night.

Great recommendations! Thanks! I forgot about Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. I'd like to go there for sure. Don't know if we'll be able to do a Circle Line cruise this time, but I'll keep it in mind.
You might want to visit Greenwich Village and the Stonewall Bar - known for the Stonewall riots in the late 60's.
Hi there.
I used to post daily here, but now only tend to post every few months only because life is busy, and I dont *really* ID as Lesbian, but Queer..nevermind all of that...I decided to come back for a visit and saw this so I thought Id throw my .02 in and such.
NYC is expensive. Come prepared. I felt bad for friends who thought they could go out for a drink for around $4-$5 a drink and found out it can be $8- $10 a pop. The best thing to do is avoid those tourist tours, and hit the city on your own. The train system is great, and is $2 a person. Cabs are everywhere...
Madame Tusseaud's is great, but runs around $30 a person to get in. Its a good time, definitely though...
If you're into Broadway shows, the cheapest shows are during the afternoon time. Morning shows, til like 3:00. If you want, the cheapest way to get them - is on the day that you want to go see a show, head on over to Times Square (42nd Street and Broadway) - you'll see a red and white booth that says "Tickets" - and get in line. There you'll be able to get tix for a show that day at a way discounted rate. Ive seen tons of shows, so if you want suggestions, feel free to ask.
I dont know if you are staying at a hotel, but once you start looking at a few and need help (I'll tell you which shady neighborhoods to stay out of) feel free to ask..
NYC is tons of fun, its best when its spur of the moment. Go out dancing at "Henrietta's" on Hudson Street in the West Village. *Girl Bar
Go have dinner for fun at "Lips" - which is a restaurant that is run by Drag Queens who put on a live performance..
Go see a comedy show, hit the museums, shop! you have tons of options.
My email is: Alisha_Stiletto@yahoo.com and I'd be glad to help you guys with more ideas on what to do here. We have everything.

Hi Alisha! How's everything going with you?
Thanks so much for stopping by and posting. Caly is originally from Westchester County, so she grew up visiting the city but is not familiar with all parts of it. We'll be staying near her parents so lodging isn't an issue this time.
We want to do the Museum of Natural History and Central Park one day and then head down to Chelsea and Greenwich Village the other day. Lips sounds like a cool place! We'll try to get there. Any other ideas you have for things to do in those areas would be great.
We'll probably shoot you an email as we get closer to firming up our plans. Thanks so much again, and I hope you'll get back here again soon.
Hugs
Thanks, Cindi! I appreciate the links. Hopefully we can get down to Greenwich Village and see Stonewall's. That would be very cool.

Hey grrlfriend!
Pieces of My Life
So so glad to see you round here!
I think about you often, and just sent you an email to see how you're doing.
Im doing really well on my end..just doing the day to day thing and trying to survive my job.
how are you mama?
I actually lived in NYC for about five months when I went to school there (and ended up moving back to the Midwest because it was too expensive, alas..)
My recommendations are more towards the cheaper end of things, but those can be as much of a blast as anything else. There's a particular bar in the Village called The Slipper Room where they have burlesque shows (hilarious ones, at that) for five dollars a person. On the edge of Tompkins Square Park is the Life Cafe (ever seen RENT? It's that one, only real!), which has really good fries and some interesting sandwiches.
When I lived there, however, what I enjoyed the most was just walking around and enjoying the view. Central Park is nice, but another place that's quite beautiful at night is Lincoln Center.
I lived and went to school in Spanish Harlem, which can be wonderful as well in the right light, though I guess I wouldn't recommend it to tourists, because it can be intimidating. But there is a killer Chinese takeout joint on 137th and Amsterdam, and a hole-in-the-wall Greek cafe a few stores down from that. Just saying. Sometimes the best things are the ones you happen upon yourself. :) Not to undercut Times Square, which, admittedly, is breathtaking and fun to wander even if you don't buy anything.
Blah blah blah! I shouldn't be allowed near keyboards anymore.
