Hey C....

I am sorry that work is going tough right now.. I hope that it gets better soon..... as for your questions.. I do like my job for the most part.. I don't like the managing of employees... that gets tough and stressful for me... as for staying or finding another one, well... I have been there for 15 years,

Not sure how to answer the first question...some days I REALLY like my job and other days I can't get motivated to do squat! I'm getting tired of the project management and more creative types of projects that I work on. You'd think creative would be good, but I'm liking the curriculum development part of my job a lot more. I'm getting tired of producing brochures and newsletters. I'm enjoying writing and developing training manuals.

Overall, though, I have to say that I'm very thankful for the job I have. It affords me lots of flexibility, which is great since I have kids, and I have a supportive boss and good work environment overall. I try to focus on all of that on my down days.

For now I'm sticking with it because I've been here for 12.5 years, and I don't want to give up the great benefits and flexibility that I have. When DDs are a bit older I may try to branch out and look for other opportunities, but right now this suits me just fine. I never thought I'd settle at a job for a long time, but I guess you reach a point where stability outweighs everything else!

Edited to add that for the type of work I do, I don't get paid enough and our raises are pretty much non-existent (1% this year I think - it's what you get working for the state ~sigh).

As of today, right now, (Tues 5:05pm) Yes! Yes! Yes! *LOL*

*grin*

Pro: I've been at this job for a little over 6 yrs and I have 4 wks vaca to use or loose by year end.

Con: I just got a new director (he came on board this past Jan) that love to micro managed. He's a stickler to the little details at the expense of the big picture. (ex: he spoke with one of my co-workers for being 5 mins late twice this week (she said she was caught in traffic)but he won't acknowledged she also stay late to help me finish my project ahead of the deadline he set.

Pro: My co-workers, especially the girls! They are supportive, for the most part *l*, and fun to be around. They love going out trying new restaurants with me when I asked. Even the ones that doesn't support my "lifestyle". *grin* Yeah, we gotten to know each other enough to want to spend time outside the work.

Con: Two of my co-workers. They take out the "bible card" and tell me "We love you but we don't want you to waste your life". *grin* I'd looked past these comments which were made earlier in our getting to know stage, (yes, they don't say these stupid words to my face anymore). I still consider them friends because they have supported me professionally.

Pro: Time. I love it I can set my own time within reason.

Con: Paycheck. It's base on productivity. Sometime, you just don't feel too productive and it will show, especially bonus time. *l*

Could you asked your boss to let you branch out within your current position? Asked for more responsibilities with writing and developing manuals? Tell him/her you want to keep your skills updated and relevent so you'll be prepare for more new projects without a skip in your learning curve. *smile*

I ADORE my job, and I'll love it even more when it gets going properly with all the bells and whistles!

I got to where I hated my old job, but I was brought up to never just quit, always make sure you had somewhere better to go to. So I stuck with it for several years while looking for something better, while my health and wellbeing suffered.

I don't regret that one bit, because I'd have hated to have left and found myself completely without a job and with no prospects, but I suppose I could've looked harder at the alternatives, so it didn't take quite so long.

Hugs,
