I really don't have any "vacation" plans. But I am going to two conventions, one in May and one if September and I am really looking forward to them.

Jamie and I spent all day yesterday talking and debating about our upcoming vacation. The family I work for is going away for the second week in July, so I have an extra week of paid vacation. Jamie requested that week off of her job, so now we just have to decide where to go.

We're saving for a big trip to Europe next year and we just bought a new Vespa, so we decided to rule out anyplace that wasn't within driving distance in order to save money. That ruled out DC, which is where I really wanted to go. (I used to live there, and it's one of my favorite places in the world. Jamie hasn't been since she was a kid, and I'm dying to take her.) We also considered Savannah/Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Wilmington, the Outer Banks, etc. None of them really called to us though. We'll definitely do a long weekend to Savannah in the near future, but we didn't feel like that was exciting enough for our big vacation.

So we decided on...St. Augustine, Fl. I wasn't 100% excited at first since I'm not a huge fan of Florida in general, but the more I learned about St. Augustine, the more excited I got. I think it will be a whole different world from Orlando, which I hated. St. Augustine is the nation's oldest city, so we're planning to do lots of historical stuff (missions, ghost tours, etc) as well as hang out at Vilano Beach and do typical vacation stuff. Also Jamie's mom's family is from Jacksonville (about an hour away) and her grandparents and aunts/uncles still live in the area. Her mom passed away when she was in high school, so she doesn't talk to that side of her family often and I know she'd like to see them and reconnect.

So, now I'm getting really excited. We've started looking for hotels and talking about what sorts of activities we'll do while we're there. It sounds like a lot of fun.

St. Augustine is beautiful! It's been a long time since I was there, but you're right, it's nothing like Orlando. I think you'll like it. Sanibel Island and some of the other islands down on the Gulf are gorgeous too. Caly and I vacationed there last May. It'd be a long drive, though.

We're going to Savannah for a day when we go to St. Simon's in July. I'm really looking forward to showing Caly around since she's never been there.

I love Savannah--not in the summer. My mom and brother live in Charleston. Fantastic city. Very open, friendly people. We are not from there, so that makes them not just Yankees, but Damn Yankees. My sister-in-law has relatives that are still fighting the War of Northern Aggression. Too funny and definitely weird.
Plans...there is a conference near here that I am sttending on behalf of my union in June/July and then there is an umpires conference in Denver at the end of July that I am thinking of attending. I will get to visit my daughter in Boulder and stay with her for a week or two with her and her boyfriend. Boulder ROCKS!!
Might go to Florida if the spirit moves me. We have a small house that I am not fond of there.
