I am sooo pissed over all this IMUS stuff and the racial slur he made on the radio I just
want to scream !!!!!
I have been sitting here all morning listening to the tv and all the people all over the news on NBC, CBS and CNN talk about how wrong he was, how he has to be held accountable for what he said, he must be fired, he is a racist pig, its slander and he had no right, we need to teach our children that this is NOT aceptable and they should never tolerate this type of bigetry.
So...........why is it ok for our president, our politicians, our teachers, our neighbors and the public in general to say that we, as lesbians and gays....... have no morals, we are all pedophiles, we are a danger to their children, we have no rights, we cant get married, we are an abomination, we dont belong in society and so on!!!
Why is there such a double standard?? Where are all these people when we are attacked? I wanted to pick up the phone and call CNN so bad this morning. If I thought I even had a chance of getting through to someone that mattered I would have called.
I just want to sit down and cry right now....it is just not fair!!
Thanks for listening,
Daronda

Easy, Sister. Don't let them raise your blood pressure one iota...I feel your pain.
I was talking to a couple of teacher coworkers about this very issue. They, of course, want blood. I think Imus is an idiot and only listened to him in the distant past one time to see what he was like. Never listened again. Then the conversation moved on to the N word and I commented that the phrase, "That's so gay" was equally bad. My two friends could not see the comparason between the way the phrase is used by my students and the use of the N word were, to me, the same act.
My friend went on to say that the N word and variations of the word were okay within the culture the same way as using the word gay was in "that" culture. In fact, he saw no problem with the "that's so gay" phrase. The woman told me that the struggle of gay and lesbians could not even compare with the struggle of her people. I could not continue the discussion for fear that I might say something that I might regret, so I let it drop.
Not everybody is as tolerant and caring as we want, but the times they are a-changing.
The woman told me that the struggle of gay and lesbians could not even compare with the struggle of her people
*sigh tell that to young boy that was murdered and left hanging a fence or all the hundreds of others killed and beaten because of who they are.
I think you are right about everybody coming out. I wish I could just say, "yep, that's me" and all others would shrug their shoulders and say, "yeah, so?, but do you love your kids, can you cook, are you HAPPY?" ARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!! EveryBODY's struggle is as important to that individual as someone else's is to them. I get frustrated when others don't see that. Don't put my(or "my people's")struggle down to raise yours up. I feel deep sympathy and empathy for the injustices that I see in the world. I even work in my own little way to conquer those. DON'T EVEN tell me that mine is not as great as yours until you have walked the mile.
Okay, my blood pressure raised an iota and now I am off my soapbox.
Deep breath in....cleansing breath out.. sigh
