Starting a GSA in college setting

I am at a community college that doesn't have anything for gay students. I am hoping that I can start a Gay Streight Allance here. My question is what is a good way to get people to sign up? I live in NC and even though the state is a little less Conservative than it used to be but some people are a little scared to sighn up maybe. I just started the process to get a group on campus. My "sister" is going to help run it and she said that I should be the President. My other question is if/when this group gets started what are some ideas for the group? I would appreciate any input.

Great idea, Hippynative, and I hope you'll have success getting it off the ground. The GSA has a web site (http://www.gsanetwork.org/), and there is a link on the left side of the main page called "How to Start a GSA". It's got lots of information about the channels to go through and ways to advertise. Do you have any idea how many GLBTs there are on campus? Word of mouth is probably a great way to round up members. I'll have to think of ideas for what to do when you get the group up and running. I'm not familiar with it.
Keep us posted on how it all develops. And, GOOD LUCK!
