Most of our gay friends are old friends of Shelley's, people she's known for 20+ years. I also have gay friends that I met at work. We have more straight friends than gay friends. When Shelley bought our house 11 years ago ( way before we even met ) this was a very gay neighborhood, not so much anymore.

In this area, there aren't any places (at least that I've found) where "family" gather.
Hey Shannon,
Thanks for your input.
We have tons of gay friends (as well as plenty of straight friends). There are tons of gay bars, gay bookstores, etc. in this area, but we don't really go looking for gay friends. We just look for friends in general, and because this area (especially our neighborhood) has such a large gay population, we happen to make plenty of gay friends.
Jamie had a ton of coworkers at Borders, where she worked temporarily when we first moved here before getting job at the law firm where she now works. Roughly 3/4 of the staff was gay (no joke, maybe even more than that). We still hang out with some of them. My employers are a gay couple, and we hang out with thema a lot. Also we just run into gay couples eveywhere we go. We may not necessarily befriend them or even speak to them, but it's nice to be just one of the crowd. Our local gay newspaper (www.sovo.com) did a recent article on the "gayest non-gay spots in Atlanta" meaning normal places (not gay bars, bookstores, etc) where you see a high concentration of gay people. It was funny to see the places listed (the target we frequent was listed along with "the highway" because there are so many cars with HRC and rainbow stickers).
I hear ya eastie.
I am glad you think of us as friends Storm because we feel the same about you and all the great women (and men) here at the board.
I go right through Knoxville on 40 every time I go to Chattanooga & back.
As far as I know it was just a natural progression.........breakups, moving for jobs, wanting to move to larger homes. We have not experianced any prejudice in this neigborhood. There are still a few gay families here, I see the rainbow stickers on the mailboxes and flags flying high outside the houses, but no one that we are close to.

When I moved to VA I found the nearest gay bar and made that my home. There are others in our town, but I'm partial to Babe's! I have a few friends outside of the bar and we meet occasionally. I can say that I'm very picky over who my friends are. Drama free is important to me. If you don't know me and don't value relationships, then you probably will have a hard time getting to know me....I'm not very sociable if I feel that we have nothing in common. I like to think that I'm wiser in my old age! lol
I love going to places where other family members are, it makes me feel the most comfortable. Very rarely, do I go into a straight bar.... We are going to stay hopefully in California to attend gay pride in San Francisco.
The community we live in here in CA, are extremely friendly and inclusive of our relationship. It's so weird not having to appear like your straight. I jumped a woman's car (not sexually Sebastian! lol) to thank me she immediately invited K and I to dinner. In the same breath she was inviting two woman that would love to tell us about all the cool places to go to in San Fran...I was laughing inside because she was assuming that I was gay!
