Okay, all. After reading in one of the threads about lucky bamboo plants, I bought one today. How do I keep from killing it?

I have a black thumb, but my bamboo is still alive! It's in a clear glass cylinder filled with river rocks. I filled it to the top of the rocks with water when I got it and top it off about once a month. That's it! Bamboo must be fairly hardy if I haven't killed it yet.

Hi Blue,
I've had my lucky bamboo for a while. I keep it watered and it doesn't require direct sunlight. Indirect sunlight works well. Eventually, the roots on the bottom of it will grow. Repot it in a bigger pot, but keep it watered once a week and keep it out of the direct sunlight.
Hope that helps.

Well, Eastie, I'm not much of an expert, but brown leaves on a lucky bamboo is not a good sign, your leaves should be green. If your getting brown leaves, then you should either change the container your lucky bamboo plant is in, or you really should just water it. I have small pebbles at the bottom of mine. I think the bamboo plant is content with them.
It's always a good thing to keep your lucky bamboo out of direct sunlight. Try to put your bamboo some where it can get indirect sunlight.
Thanks and good to see ya,
Sebastian

Shannon, I don't know what a "black thumb is, but thank you for the advice.

SB, thanks for the advice. It seems like a baby right now. Do you keep pulling it out of the pot to check the roots?
Blue
Thanks, babe!
