Greek societies....

Hello ladies,

I thought I would start a discussion about greek societies. Since I've never been a member of a greek society, I've often wondered about the mysterious goings on. We've seen stories in the news about greek societies and the negativity that they can sometimes get mixed up in.

I would like to focus on the positive aspects about a greek society. If you've ever been a member of a sororiety, what was it like? I can remember as small kid the fraternity that my brother became a part of. It was interesting to see the somewhat ridiculus things he had to do, what happened when he broke a rule as a pledge. But I was also impressed by the uniformity of his fraternity.

If we as a community had a sorority/fraternity, what would be the rules of conduct? What would be the rights of passage? What would be a part of initation to show the sincerity of the applicant? What positive things would be a requirement to maintain the applicants participation? And finally, what kind of ceremony would be held for the applicants that have passed the initation (I know all ceremonies are private, but what kind? Meaning the color of the clothes, what kind of insignia, or emblems?)

Thanks and have fun ladies. I'll be back with my opinions, thoughts and comments.

Sebastian

Wow! That is alot to think about. My Grandfather was a Master Mason, my mom was in Eastern Star, and I was in Rainbow girls, all Masonic Lodge societies.
I think that alot of the bad stuff comes from the fact that there are secrets within these societies.
They are not really bad but you will have people to look out for you for life with certain signs or symbols.
If people see you are in trouble and they know or find out that you are a part of a society they should come to your rescue. Or help you. At least try.
There are many other things that go on within the societies as well. They are not evil as far as my experience goes. I think it is just ignorance on some peoples part for not knowing.
I will come back with more on the topic later like if we had our on society.
Hugs,
Laurie

Holy cow, SB, many of us are already part of this "secret society" and are afraid and/or unwilling to let people know we are in the society.

I think the secret handshake is a must, however. :)

I need to think about the other stuff.

By the way is anybody out there a Turtle?

You have to know the secret answer. It is how we Turtles identify each other. It's actually a screwy thing that somebody invented. There are no perks, no dues, no organization, really, nothing! It's another society and you have to answer 4 questions correctly and then I can make you an official member. You remain a member "in good standing" when you give the proper reply to question Are you a turtle? Failure to give the correct reaponse because of embarrassment or some other reason(yep, it really says that on my membership card) will require you to forfeit the beverage of the questioners choice(ya gotta buy them a drink)

First question: What is it a man can do standing up, a woman sitting down, and a dog on three legs?

Thanks for the responses, I know there should be more to come....

Let's see... If we were in college right now our colors would be the rainbow, some of us would have the insignia of the Lambda. Some of us would have the rainbow and a symbol of a transgender. The rules of conduct would be simple, treat everyone with the respect and recognition that is due to everyone and not to just a few special ones.

One or two things that would be a requirement for the applicant would be that they volunteer some of their free time on clean up projects, and working with Habitat for Humanity. Of course, the applicant could choose for themselves what they wish to do, as long as it's serving another human being.

Now, because all ceremonies of Greek societies are secret, the ceremony will remain a secret....

But, Blue is right, our Greek society is secret at least those that wish to keep themselves, and rightfully so, a secret.
