Out, looking for help

I've known that I'm attracted to girls for a long time, but I haven't been very active in the LGBT community because of where I live: "We don't talk about that here" is practically painted above every doorway. As such, I really haven't had much exposure, and I'm not even sure where to start looking for resources. I know there are approximately a million and three websites, books, and dating services out there, but honestly, I'd love some advice from someone who actually has some experience.
Thanks!

Hi and welcome, Rosebride! It's great to have you here. You are not alone, and we are here to give you all the support you need. I recommend that you hang out here for a bit and read through the recent posts. You will see a lot of newcomers like yourself who have been given a lot of great advice and support.
As for finding opportunities in your area to explore the community, I suggest doing an online search for lesbian social groups. We have a pretty active group here, and we live in a VERY closeted community. It just takes a little digging, and it takes putting yourself out there and networking with people. There may be lesbian book clubs or sports teams that you would be interested in joining. Those are the kinds of things that many of us do to get involved and meet other lesbians.
I hope you'll continue to post with us so we can get to know you better. Glad you stopped by!
Hi Rose!
As TiNG said, reading thru some of the posts here is a great way to start!
