Hi Ladies,

I have just started checking out this board and I have been surprised to see that there are so many other women out there that are just like me! I am married and have one child. I was actually looking out for a woman to date when I met my to-be-husband. I had no intention of having any type of serious relationship with him and, looking back, am not sure why I was dating him...I already knew that I preferred being with a woman even though I had never had the opportunity to have a formal relationship in that way. Anyway, I was clumsy and got pregnant We (he?) made the decision to be a couple and raise our child together. Three years later, we got married. There was no deep romance involved...I think we did it more for convenience. Now...I am really feeling out of place and every day I think about how it would be if I could be free of this commitment and find that girlfriend that I have always wanted. My husband knows that I am (was?) bisexual, but he has no clue just how much I have lost my attraction to men. At this point, I really believe that I am absolutely gay. I have no idea what to do. So...it is nice to be able to come here and know that I am not alone.

Thanks!!

You know I just love being a soldier. I was written up for my individual combat skills and A Command Sergeant Major grabbed me and dragged me to a General. The conversation was could female soldiers compete with the male soldiers. Embarrassing as the event was, the SGM used me to point out that there was one that he thought not only would compete, but exceed the standards. Pat myself on the back sheepishly, but, I still would love to put on a uniform again. Someday maybe I could enlist with you.

THAT would be awesome! I will let you know if we are ever in your area. It seems your area is changing though. We take all comers, I'd loan you my extra uniforms. We'd teach you to be a proper signalist. Of course, it's not the real thing, but it is real fun.

Sounds like you could really kick butt in the Army. I am awed and inspired. May I ask why you are out? If you don't want to say, that is okay.

Gotta love her for the way she is. *grin* I hear you and I'm with you. Nothing squeamish here. "Butch" experiences. IS THAT what they are called? Well, it's good to know to be able to put a name to it. I somehow don't think the dh would have called them butch. lol
Speaking of that, he is off to Florida until Sunday and now I am a WOL(woman on the loose)! That doesn't mean a whole lot in this town, however. The weekend should bring some interesting surprises.

So, one day I am digging in the garden and I feel a little pinch on my finger. I pull my hand out of the dirt and there is a six inch garter snake attached to it. I thought that was so cool. The dh, who is terrified of snakes, about has a stroke. I calmly separate the snake from me, and send it on it's way. Never kill the predators.....

Speaking of not killing the predators, have you read Prodigal Summer? It is absolutely the best book, after To Kill A Mockingbird. I think you would really like it. The prose reads like poetry and the women are amazing, as far as I am concerned.

Of course. I spent 8 1/2 years in active service and have an honorable discharge. When the Berlin Wall fell, congress cut three hundred thousand. I was one. Would love to join the re-enactment of any battle. I'm good at signaling, but can't I fight on the front line?

Of course. I can hook you up with the men in grey with the Maryland unit. Did I mention that? I have a blue uniform if you MUST wear that color. I cannot loan you my musket so you can fire on me, though. Did I tell you why I mostly wear grey? It's not for lack of trying to be blue, that's for sure.

No you didn't mention that. I don't care and I wouldn't mind being in the same uniform as you are. I have skills in survival training that can come in handy! lol

The reason I wear grey is because the Federal troops would not allow women re-enactors on the field as soldiers. There was a HUGE fight about it in the early nineties. They do now and I have been of service to the Federal troops many times when they did not have signalists. The southern men were more accomodating as long as we are as true to the period of time as possible. We actually have a person who is in charge of authenticity in the unit. You don't pass muster, you don't go out onto the field. I fight when there is a need for soldiers and we have enough signalists, so my musket would be available.

Survival skills are good. Of course, I pull my Chevy Blazer up to the campsite, unload my tent and gear, and drive it to the parking lot. My comrades help me set up my tent, cover the coolers, stow my gear, and make my bedroll look authentic. We spend the weekend on bivouac in this manner. We look just like the camps in the movies, streets and all. Sometimes there are dances in the evening and women who pose a "ladies of the evening" and camp followers. I have never availed myself of their charms. There are sutlers that come to the events and sell merchandise such as uniforms, weapons, lanterns, etc. and vendors who sell food. Most times we cook our own, but when you are dog tired, it's nice to be able to grab a barbecue sandwich and a lemonade. We use port o potties and never shower. Sometimes officers set up an old time shower with a bucket, but that is mostly the artillery division. They are babies.

I'll keep you posted.

Babies? lol

You know I'm going to like having someone to talk to about the civil war, right? lol

I must point out the need for showers however. Personal hygiene is of the upmost. It's an attractive thing to do if you want to meet another lesbian. ;-) I'm sure there are others, don't you think? lol

An Officer and Sergeants job is to care for the soldiers. When I was deployed to Honduras, my field shower was the only shower available for over 280 soldiers. Even my commander was grateful that I toted it along. The corps of engineers took three and half weeks to get our field showers up and running. I believe they had poor planning.

Dysentery and other diseases plagued both sides of the civil war. One important thing the civil war taught was the need for hygiene in the field. Field hospitals were improved and the importance of healthy soldiers became every commanders concern. The civil war is a learning tool that the military uses to improve the art of war. From the tactics, the planning, the leadership styles, what worked, what didn't, failures that were evident in every battle can be analyzed. We try to live and learn from every war. I can say that the war in Iraq is going to come into years of scrutiny. IMHO I believe we failed militarily to learn from Vietnam. Very sad that our leaders have lost sight of history, were supposed to learn from it, not relive it! Well of course except the civil war reenactments! lol
