How many of you have another Family member or Close Relative that is Gay?

I'm not gay, but my mother is (never told anyone that online and one 1-2 people know that irl). I have no clue if anyone else in my family is gay, I sometimes suspect my sister and one of my brothers, but I think they are just late bloomers. *grin* I am quite sure that my aunts, uncles and cousins are, just because of my extended family's values.

Did it make it easier to come out?

I do think it is semi-difficult for my mom. I am sure that she has close friends who know and others who she doesn't discuss it with, but it is something that we haven't ever discussed. We didn't get along well while I was growing up and even now some conversations just don't get said much.

Growing up, or at least in my teens, there was a "Womyns Drumming and Dancing" group (I think that's the name) that I would attend quite often. Think 20-30 women with drums of all sorts, bongos, maracas, symbols, flutes and tons of other percussion instruments all making beautiful music together (sometimes plain noise!). Because of this group and my participation in it, some of my friends and especially a few of the guys assumed I was a lesbian too. *rolls her eyes* It didn't matter, I enjoyed my time there anyway.

I do wonder if this group helped my mom feel more confident and come out to at least me, my stepmom and my dad..

Not sure where all my words lead, but there they are.

Wow, that is a really interesting perspective and helps me think about what and how I will tell my own children. I just want us all to be happy. We have a really good relationship right now and I so want to tell my daughter before I tell dh, but everyone here says that knowing is way to much a burden on the children before telling the dh.
Thanks.

Hugs

Wow Heather Thanks for sharing that!

I had a friend in VT who when I came out told me her mother was gay and I thought that was so cool.

I'm glad my point of view is helpful, Blue. I have to credit my stepmom in part for helping our family be so open and loving of people as they are. Not that my mom and dad were anti-people before she came into our family, but she definitely brought it out into the open more and encouraged talk about everything. Sometimes too much of everything.

She was the one "warning" my parents that I could be having sex already at the age of 14!!! And when I did tell her that I had sex for the first time..she didn't get mad, she just asked me, "So, how was it?"!!!!

Hi Caly,
I grew up on the west coast of Oregon (as if there is an east 'coast') and my family is still there.

While, the state of Oregon is very homosexual friendly, my hometown (county) is quite strange. There is a high amount of homosexual people, but yet none of the laws and other items to be voted on get passed. They are always voted down. LOL
