I've never tried any alternative medicines, mostly because the illnesses/conditions I've dealt with have been cured easily/quickly through modern medicine. I might consider something alternative for mental health, however. Right now, though, the meds I'm on are working really well. Maybe at some point in the future I'll look into it.
I've practiced yoga for five years it has done wonders for my weight control, stress level, concentration and other things. Alternative health methods keep me healthy, I'm very chosey about which ones to practice. I don't recommend this for those that have to take psych meds, I haven't had to take my psych meds for a long time, and the freedom that physical exercise plus the meditation that goes along with it, is very beneficial for me.
Besides the health benefits from the yoga, the spiritual benefits are just as good. But, I would never substitute it for traditional medicine. But I think both traditional and alternative health practices are good for those that respond to them.
I have never tried it, but xbf was on some kind of vitamin therapy where she took a whole bunch of them intravenously. That didn't seem to work. Then she had a bad neck and, at first tried physical therapy, but then was going to an acupuncturist before we stopped talking, so I don't know how that worked out. I am always a little leary, but if things weren't getting better with traditional methods, I might try it, especially yoga and acupuncture or pressure. I did use melatonin for awhile to help me sleep and it worked. There are no govt. regulations on amt. or quality, though, so I quit.
I have never really tried any of it -- mostly because I have never had a real need to.
My DH has had back problems, though, and goes to a chiropractor. As long as he goes every 5 or 6 weeks he does not seem to have much trouble. It really has helped him quite a lot. All conventional medicine offered him were pain pills and muscle relaxants that had unintended side effects.
Hi Caly....I personally haven't tried any of the alternative medicine practices because I haven't had a need to. I do however use many herbal remedies if I feel an illness coming on.
