Hello Everyone:
I am new to this message board however I've been an Ivillage member for a long while. I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself and hopefully make a few new friends. I am a 45 year old physically disabled black american lesbian woman. I was born without arms but I am independent by use of my feet. I can do anything you can do only difference is I use my feet. YES I am typing this message with my toes and a darn fast typer I am.(smile)
I am originally from NYC but I relocated to Va. two years ago. I was ready for a change in life style. Living here in Va. is quite different then life in NYC. A much slower and layed back pace but I truly enjoy and welcome the change.
The most difficult task for me is establishing new friendships. Va. has a gay/lesbian community however it seems as though the gay/lesbian population here in Va. are afraid to come out and live their lives. People here seem to be closeted, secretive on the down low when it comes to their sexuality.
Coming from NYC I am definetlly not used to hiding who I am or my sexuality. NO I don';t go around waving a flag or wearing a banner, but I am not ashamed to be a lesbian, because I have been attracted to the same sex all of my life.
About a year or so my previous lady companion ended our six year relationship. Getting back into the dating scene isn't an easy task these days especially here in Va. because the lesbian population seems hidden away. It makes it difficult for me to even establish new friendships let alone dating. (Smile)
So here I am on Ivillage trying to connect with new people and just make new friends. I hope I am welcome here and I do look forward to connecting with a few good people.
If you'd like to know more about me and what I do please feel free to take a look at my profile listed on Ivillage.
For now I wish all of you happiness and peace and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards
Noahe2000 aka Susan (Smile)

Hey, Susan, welcome to the board. Our co-leaders are away on a camping trip so let me be the first to say hi. This is a very open and welcoming place. Stroll through some of the old threads to get a feel for who is whom(who?). You should relate to a number of people here.
Very cool about the feet thing. Anything??? ;) I am not sure that you have a disability. Seems you get along quite well from your post.
Yeah, NYC to Va. Quite a culture shock I am thinking.
Look forward to your postings.

I think typing with your feet is really cool!
I had a comedian friend born with no arms or legs but he would hop out of his chair and onto a table and do his set.
He had partial limbs, but not much.
It is good to have you here.
We are a very supportive group.
Hugs,
Laurie

Hi Blue:
I thank you kindly for your friendly welcome. I am going to take your suggestion and browse through the messages. In some ways I already feel a sense of welcome here. It truly feels good to correspond with people who share in some of my interests. I use AOL as my internet service provider.
I've been an AOL member for almost 15 years and their message boards are truly attrocius to say the least. Years ago I enjoyed connecting with people via AOL message boards. Now a days their boards are not monitored so you might imagine all that goes on. Anywhoooooooo I am glad to be amongst friends here at Ivillage.
Again I thank you for your warm welcome. Until we connect again you take care and have a great day/hholiday weekend.
Susan
PS
Yeah my toes are quite nifty. Years of practice have made my legs and toes very, very strong. Once people get to know me they often times forget that I do not have arms. (smile)

Hi Laurie:
I thank you for your welcome. I am glad to be a part of this group and I am looking forward to making a few new friends. It's interesting in my life time I haven't had the opportunity to meet too many people who were born missing arms and who use their feet as I do. It would one day be good to connect with another person who uses their feet like myself and share ideas and stuff like that.
Anyhow I wish you a great day and holiday weekend. Until we chat again you take care.

Hello Susan, and I'd like to welcome you also. My name is Sebastian. I'm a female to male transexual. I've been a member of iVillage for at least two or three years. If you wish to know more about me, please read my profile.
I'm also "handicapped" as a result of a near fatal car accident. Self-determination is all important. I've since gone back to school to make a better life for myself, and I'm working my way off of receiving disability payments, but not for my "handicap" but for another reason.
Anyway, I'd like to welcome you to this side of heaven.
Hugs,
Sebastian
