I saw this on the news this morning. I do feel hopeful about the fact that, even thought the presidential candidates were at least in our company, and were respectful enough to at least answer the questions that was put before them, at least we know where they stand.
That's a good thing. I can tell, that Biden, that's from DE, isn't going to stand a chance, so, in my opinion, he can hang it up and just be content in just being a senator. But the others, Clinton, OBama, Edwards they are resonably conflicted, considering their popularity. The other three that I don't know: Richardson, Kucinich and Gravel, seem to be reasonably open-minded, but unfortunately, they aren't running for the president.
Hey thanks for posting that! I was checking out the HRC website last night for a synopsis and couldn't find one.
You know this whole stuck on the word marriage thing irritates me to NO END! I know alot of people in our community want gay marriage to be called marriage. I don't care what you call it, civil union, domestic partnership..........all I care about is a system that gives all couples the same rights at the federal level and is recognized in every state. This is not a moral or religious issue........this is a civil right issue and any other politician that tries to pedal it any other way is full of garbage!
I'm with you, Shannon! I think Obama put it better than anyone when he said, "we should try to disentangle what has historically been the issue of the word 'marriage,' which has religious connotations to some people, from the civil rights that are given couples".
It was nice to see the candidates attending this forum to answer the hard questions. Actually, Richardson, Kucinich and Gravel are Presidential hopefuls too.
You know what's funny.......I am a LONG time Hilary supporter. When Bill got voted in for his first term I thought she should have been running! But, I do not trust her with this issue, that makes me so sad. She is not my first choice, I think my heart is with Obama right now. I don't think that these people see that once we have federal level civil unions or whatever you want to call it........this will slowly become a nonissue. I don't understand the opposition, I really don't.
Again, I'm with you, and I'm leaning toward Obama too. I thought Hillary would step up to the plate on this issue, but she's playing it too safe IMO.
In Vermont, Caly witnessed firsthand what you said about civil unions becoming a non-issue. I think a poll was done a certain number of years after they became legal, and a good number of people who initially opposed it had changed their opinions. They saw that it didn't change their lives drastically.
OOOhhh ok, maybe I didn't read that close enough. Well either one of those would make a decent president, I don't follow politics that closely. I have issues about politicians, but hopefully one of the ones that are running can solve my issues about politicians.
I was in Vermont when the civil unions were starting up. I remember driving by barns that said Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve............Gay Rights = Special Rights, that kind of stuff. But,once it went into law it died down VERY quickly.

Good morning, Ting,

And of course, this is just my opinion.
Thanks,
