Nice start to my 'weekend"-NOT! (& a Q)

We have had a frantic few days at work- Sunday I bathed 34 dogs in 4&1/2 hours- this involves getting them from kennels, getting them into the bath (many of them don't really like the getting in part), bathing them, towel drying them and taking them back to the drying kennels. I was running all morning!
SO I am looking forward to my well earned days off. Partner has invited friends for dinner so I am thinking a bit of a sleep in and then into some housework.
I woke up at 6am with acute period pain. I told my gf this is the kind of pain that makes you feel dizzy and sick. Then I was. I tried to take pain relief... (had no paracetamol but had blackcurrant flavoured lemsip which is a hot drink with vit c and paracetamol in it) kept it down for maybe 5mins and off I went again. I had a shower hoping to help out with pain, but was feeling dizzy with the heat and the steam. So I tried soluble voltaren for pain relief. I don't even think that hit my stomach before it did a u-turn and came right back.
Very frustrating because I am in almost agony... so partner tells me to get dressed and we are off to A&E (accident and emergency). I wasn't there very long and I am hot, then I am cold and I had to ask for somewhere to lie down because I am a nice shade of pale khaki and feeling not far off passing out. I wasn't really with it as it was - I do remember someone talking to me but I have no idea what they were saying.
When they did their first set of obs, my heart rate was 75bpm and everything else was normal. That was written down as normal too so I had to tell them I have bradycardia. Next thing, they wheeled in the ECG and stuck little stickers all over me. This was very entertaining as in one session my heart rate went as high as 75 and as low as 40bpm.
They gave me tramadol for pain relief which worked very well and I was feeling ready to go home now, but they are all hung up on the ECG results and had me worried they were sending me off to cardiology next.
I was in A&E for 3 hours, they took 1/2 hourly obs and each time got a different result. Apparently I have bradycardia with a prolonged QTc (whatever that means...!) and they could give me meds to help with that but it tends to slow the heart rate. Am I difficult or what?
So here I am home again with an appointment in Cardiology on Monday. I am still feeling a little bit dizzy and not really with it, but that is probably the tramadol.
The question I wanted to ask was what does everyone else do to cope with period pain? I seldom have it this extreme, usually the synflex (naproxen sodium) I take every day for foot pain takes care of it.

Ok I looked up the prolonged QT thing and found information on the condition right here in the health channel on ivillage

I am SOOOOO Sorry! I have never in my life had period pain that badly. I have to wonder if it's normal. Can you schedule an visit with an GYN soon? I do notice when I am "good" exercise and eat health and keep at ideal weight, my periods are no big deal...if fact i look forward to starting because i feel a release in a slight tension. If i gain even 6 pounds, i bleed heavier and hurt a tiny more. I think fat produces hormones...(extrogen) ans i guess that could affect my cycle.
Get the to a GYN! And..."bathed 34 dogs in 4&1/2 hours-" Good lord woman? That is fast! I dont know how you did that...!!! That is ONE dog under 8 minutes???! I cant even picture that! You rock. You should video that and put it on you tube: woman bathes 34 dogs under 8 min each!!!
Feel better...Hugs.
PS-Ibuprophen works if i do hurt some. Your pain sound excessive to me.
Hugs
Do anything to get out of housework, V? *wink*
I hope you are feeling better today. I had pain before but not to the point of being driven to the hospital. I would just stay in bed and go back to sleep; that usually help me. Maybe hot water bottle on the tummy might help you? Or a hot totty? I’m not sure which one was suggested to me at one point. ;-)
I hope you are taking care of yourself by having a yearly checkups.
as it happened, I started to feel better in the afternoon and I DID do some housework, then gf's friends phoned and said they wouldn't make it. Regarding period pain, the synflex (also known as Aleve, Anaprox, Naprogesic, Naprosyn, Naprelan - I love wikipedia!!) usually takes care of it and I think I need to take it before the pain starts.
At the hospital they think that maybe the stress of the pain has brought on symptoms of long QT syndrome. Now I know what that is, I am surprised they let me go home.
I only have that much pain when I have a light period. You will all hate me because mine are usually over with in 3 days. This one is even lighter than that. Maybe it's just paying the price for having it so easy all these years....?
Now I have some thinking to do. It really sucks actually. I have just gotten off government assistance and into full time work but because of the physical nature of the job I may have to quit and find something more sedate. Which will lead to me putting back on the 77 pounds I lost... arrrgggh!
I often have painful periods but this one was a bit OTT. Because the pain relief they gave me at the hospital and what I have taken subsequently has taken care of the pain I doubt it's an ongoing problem. I was looking very pot bellied yesterday but that has all gone now and I am feeling a bit more human again.
I don't think I will be doing that kind of dog bathing again for a while. I think a word with my employer is in order. It's nice to come home and know that I did it, a bit of an adrenaline rush at times which now seems it would be a good thing to avoid. A bit scary to look back at things that have happened and realise it could have turned out a whole lot differently.
I am more worried for my kids. My daughter was diagnosed with a heart murmur when she was 10. The symptoms were a bit alarming i have to say- especially the sudden death one. My gf found a paper online where the author discussed "survivors of sudden death" - so that is encouraging, I guess!
I have a cardiology appointment on Monday, I think they will make me wear a monitor for 24 hours. I suspect I will end up with a pacemaker or some other type of implant but will worry about that when it happens. I am sure they will also follow up my children with ecg's and whatever else they feel they need.

I am so sorry for your pain. Maybe you bathed to many dogs to fast and pulled something along with cramps.
Sounds awful!
I hope this finds you feeling better.
How did the weekend turn out after that?
Hugs,
Laurie
