Love house hunting, even when I'm not looking to buy!..always looking for the 'a dream house" Even the ones I cannot afford.... like those listed in the back of the NY Times weekend magazine..LOL
Own a colonial now, slowly have refurbished it. I love the hardwoodfloors, moldings, all the magnificent craftsmanship of old homes (not crazy about the plumbing, or electrical) ..tedious but satisfying work refurbishing old grand dames of architerture. Fireplaces, a must too.
My dream home would be a victorian somewhere on the coast preferably one that could be used as a Lesbian B&B. I just love old homes with lots of history. A wonderful floor to ceiling library. A small wine cellar, just for fun. Lots of bedrooms for friends and family. Oh a working dumb waiter..those are cool and very useful. Nice outdoors space... I cannot imagine living anywhere far from the northeast coastline, somewhere like Cape May, would be totally ideal.. New construction does not appeal to me, at all. Modern equipment/accessories are aapealing, but not modern structures.
I'll answer this question when I come back home this afternoon.
Thanks,
Seb
Ok, here goes my dream home: Three levels: An upstairs with three rooms. One is my bedroom, one is an office and the other a guest room. Three bathrooms. One in my bedroom, one in my office and one in the hallway. The guest room is several feet away from my room and my office.
The middle level: Living room, kitchen dining room, and a back inclosed patio.
The bottom level: A large basement that is converted into a playroom/laundry room and storage room. Of course, it would be water proofed, but there would be the proper drains in the laundry room, just in case the washer over flowed, lol! There would also be a section where I could hang an indoor line, just in case it rains outside, and I can hang my clothes out to dry. I would have a big enough back yard where I can have a small amount of grass to mow and have a metal fence surrounding my property line. Some where along the fence, I would have some type of garden growing. And I would definately have a place to park my pick up truck.
The house we live in was purchased by Shelley almost 12 years ago. I think it looks like a cottage, it's very cute. The exterior is a medium blue, large front yard and an inground pool out back. It's 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms(1/2 bath in garage for pool use) and just under 1000 square feet. So, it's the perfect size for the 2 of us. If by some miracle we work things out then we will sell this house in about 2 1/2 - 3 years and buy something bigger to start a family in.
Our next house will be 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 car garage, and preferably 1 level. Shelley's Mom would move in with us so 1 level would be better. Also, Shelley has bad knees and a bad back.......stairs would make life hard I think. I'd love a finished basement but it's a very rare thing around here. If we moved to Oregon that would be possible.
If I was single and buying a house? I'd probably buy a house similar to what we live in now but without the pool in the backyard. I'd also want it to be a little bigger.
I love Craftsman style homes.........they are so charming.

I guess that's a good enough dream home.

I always describe my house as 'mid-90's California Blah.'
I built a log home in the 80's. Well, not myself, but had a company do it. Loved the log home, except for the bug upkeep.

Not just yet.......in awhile. But, I'm quiet, reserved, polite, don't take up much space, and like dogs and little kids, 'cause I teach.
