We're buying a house! Our closing will be on Oct. 12th if all goes well, and we'll be in and settled by Thanksgiving.

The past week has been very stressful. We got approved for a loan last Wednesday and then started looking at houses on Friday evening. We had already scoped out our house, and it felt right even from just the outside. So, we were overjoyed Friday when we actually got to go inside it. The owner, an investor, has remodeled it (put in new ceramic tile floors, countertops, carpet, heating/ac, water heater, and roof), and it meets all of our needs. The layout has some issues, but overall it will be a good place for us. It's on a quiet cul-de-sac and has a huge wooded lot. It is 37 years old but with all the upgrades that have been done, it should be in good shape for a long time. The neighborhood is older and well established. DD2 will have to switch schools next year, but DD1 is still zoned for the same middle school.

It happened SO fast! We looked at houses on Friday night and Sunday afternoon and wrote the offer on Sunday night. Unfortunately, there are not many houses in our price range in the area of town we need to be in. So, unless we wait until more things come on the market, it's slim pickin's around here. Monday and Tuesday were of course very stressful as we waited to hear back from the seller on our offer, but all went well and we signed the contract last night. I'm just so thankful that we were able to find the ONE from the few choices we had available. And, there are some really ugly houses out there! Most of the ones we looked at just didn't compare to this one in quality and upkeep.

We'll be very, very busy between now and November packing and spending lots of money (we need a frig, washer and dryer, etc.), but it'll be nice to be settled in for the holidays.

Here's the house. Yes, the shutter on the upper righthand window is missing. The owner claims he doesn't know what happened to it.
