We have gotten pretty handy, however, when it comes to the big things like plumbing and electrical we call the professionals. Now that does not mean we don't do the smaller projects but we had a drain burst under the yard and had to have the pro's out. also our electrical box needed redone and I am not liscensed so again a professional.
Then we wanted a privacy fence out back and the professionals hit a gas line. But it is up and we love it.
We had some unfinished walls in the addition that we did ourselves and we had to do our own woodworking in that room. I learned all about a miter saw.
We put some of our own floors in but had help from bro-in-law and step dad with some too when we replaced all of our floors. We always do our own painting etc.
and small plumbing projects. I do our own roto rooter jobs by renting a thing at the Home Depot. We need to do it about once a year.
I am going to put new trim etc in the bathroom by myself.
I love to do home projects.
Next year we have to paint the outside of the house. Roofing goes to the pro's. We had some storm damage once and insurance helped with that.
I do think we have become very handy though.
Fun question,
hugs,
Laurie

I am not handy AT ALL! I'm so thankful Caly is and has a lot more knowledge about things than I do. She understood many of the home inspection issues with our new house. I wish I were handier, but I'm good in the decorating department, so that's my thing. We are compatible in that way. I let her do all she wants structurally, and I get to decorate any way I want! I laid awake the other night obsessing about how we will decorate our hearth. Silly, isn't it??!

I've gotten handier over the last few years, Shelley's taught me alot. We've done alot of the work in the house together............painting, installing new garbage disposal, new sinks, new counter tops, new light fixtures. Pretty good for someone who barely knew how to swing a hammer. In May we built a deck.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I never had the means to pay for minor *fix-its.* So, with the aid of whatever looked like a tool & a repair book from the library, I accomplished ALOT. Now, I use the internet for *how-to* instructions.

I have often thought if I ever remarried, I would go for a man with a skill. Plumbers can be so expensive & electricians are downright outrageous. This may all be a pipedream. The last one never did enough to break Sabbath. Then again, he was a professor of literature & a Sansrit scholar. LOL jan
