I'm not sure what I did

Several weeks ago I had a few days of really intense shoulder/neck pain that seemed to be tension related. A few days of muscle relaxers and massages got rid of it completely. A week ago the pain came back, this time with migraines. Before this I had only had 2 migraines in my life. Nothing I take seems to deal with either problem for very long. Yesterday at work I looked up at the ceiling and a very sharp intense pain ran from my neck down my shoulder into my hand. At that point my hand went numb. I called my Dr, I have an appt in a week. The numbness has resolved into more of a slight pins and needles sensation. Last night my mid back started to hurt. This morning I have very intense mid back pain and I cannot bend forward or backwards. Lateral flexion is painful too.

What in the heck have I done to myself? About 7 years ago I had an MRI for shoulder pain and was told that I had an issue with my C5-C6 vertebrae. Basically my C5 is pressed against my C6. I never would have known if they didn't tell me. I have no idea when it happend (my guess is either when I broke my clavicle or during my car accident when I was 18). I'm wondering if this is all related? The Dr did tell me that I would probably need some type of surgery in the future if I started to have problems.

We really don't need 2 injured people in this house again! We just did that this summer and it was NOT fun!

Just out of concern...how is your ticker (heart)? Women can have heart trouble and the symptoms get missed. Have your BP measured and get yourself check out.

Hey Roxy!

You are right that women have atypical pain related to heart attack and heart conditions. But, this all seems to muscular I think. Especially since the pain in my back is with movement and the tingling started with a pain in my neck related to moving my neck. My BP is good, just checked it at work yesterday. I used to take BP meds but once I lost some weight I was able to stop them. No diabetes.

Good words of wisdom though! Alot of women miss the signs of heart attack! Other big symptoms in women are nausea, exhaustion, indigestion and dizziness. Stuff that most women brush off as the flu, or working too hard!

Awww thanks Roxy! It hurts like a mother tonight........I think lugging my 30+ pound bag to school was a mistake. But, I needed everything in there so I had no choice. I'm taking Shelley to the hospital on thursday for a CT scan of her back. I wish they could throw me in the tube after her! LOL

I'm going to be taking a bath and a muscle relaxer soon........

I wouldn't be waiting a week to see a doctor, Shannon. Try and see someone sooner.... this could be serious and lead to a permanent injury. Copied and pasted this from a website:

Injury or mild trauma to the cervical spine can cause a serious or life-threatening medical emergency (e.g. spinal cord injury or SCI, fracture). Pain, numbness, weakness, and tingling are symptoms that may develop when one or more spinal nerves are injured, irritated, or stretched. The cervical nerves control many bodily functions and sensory activities.

C1: Head and neck

C2: Head and neck

C3: Diaphragm

C4: Upper body muscles (e.g. Deltoids, Biceps)

C5: Wrist extensors

C6: Wrist extensors

C7: Triceps

C8: Hands

Take care of yourself!

I've been on the hunt for one! But, I need one that can carry about 50 pounds and everything I've seen only goes up to about 25. Next semester if I get into the program I will have 3 classes back to back(meaning no time to go get books from my car!) and each has 2-3 books.

The deep breathing and I have made nice because that and cussing is all that makes me feel better. The neck and shoulder are ok today, it's the midback that is killing me. The muscles are locked down tighter than fort knox. I could barely get off the couch last night because it was so painful it took my breath away. Work should be fun today! I took a hot shower last night, Shelley massaged my back with icey hot, I took 1 flexoril with a Vicodin chaser and it didn't touch it. The muscles are just in a constant state of spasm.

Hugs,
Shannon
