anxiety about student debt

Hi everyone! I am a college student in my senior year, I am graduating in May. It just hit me the other day that I am in so much debt and I am goign to have to start paying it back pretty soon, unless I go to graduate school and rack up some more debt and then put it off for another two years (I want to to go to graduate school) I at this point I already owe about 42,000 in student loan debt. Another 2 years will probably take it up to 60K or so. I feel like that is such a huge amount of money because I'm not going to school to be a doctor or anything like that, just a teacher, and teachers really don't make that much money in the grand scheme of things. I was thinking that I don't see how I'm ever going to be able to get a house or anything with a huge student loan payment looming over us every month. My boyfriend (6 years together, so basically fiance) also has student loan debt to add on to the mess and it's probably about 30K or so, we aren't really sure. I'm starting to panick thinking our lives are going the drain because we will never be able to get a nice home or have kids because our student loan payments will prevent us from doing anything. Help! Someone tell me it will be ok! I just can't see the light!

Hi Aerandel,

Well, there isn't really anything you can do about this right now so why go and get yourself all worked up over it! You know it will just take setting up a budget and living by it. That will fall into place when the time gets here. Right now I think you need to be reminded of my favorite prayer.........

The Serenity Prayer

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the ability
to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference!

Hope this helps!! Now get back to smiling!

Yep, college loans suck, but many folks have them, just like you.

hey look what I found while checking into things for my son!! You might be able to help me to help him!! He is a fantastic student that picks everything up without even having to work at it. His teachers have always made a big deal out of this even since second grade. He is 4.0 student and the only thing that brought that average sown was the required gym classes!!

He is wanting help and guidance from me about how to get things( whatever they are!!) done tohelp him get in applications and figure out what he wants to do for school. This young man has a scholarship through Student incentive program thru oour state but niether of us know how to check into eexactly what that is!!

I think he can can get it all payed for to go to U of M here in Michigan. Which really is a big deal. Of course he doesn't know that! He took the act test and scored in the 90th percentile all thru it. This kid had so much going for him and I don't know how to help him get what he has earned, if you know what I mean.

Any kinda of info you could share about how and who to contact would mean the world to me!! here is the link I thought might help you that I found!!
