We're always glad to see you:) The paxil has been discussed & in some folks it does cause difficulties when discontinuing. But, all meds effect each of us differently. I went off effexor XR after 3 years of a high dose. I went off very slowly as directed by the pdoc. The biggest problem was crying. I couldn't stop for about 6 weeks. I got alot of good info on the *Antidepressant Medications* board. Cl-Kocco has posted what to expect, as this is a major concern for many folks. Here's the link:

Thanks for the link and info. The most that I ever took was 20mg and that was only for a few months. When I went down to 15, I was pretty uncomfortable and when I went down to 10, I felt like the anxiety was circling around the edges of my consciousness pretty constantly. My cousin went off of Paxil slowly last year (we have a pretty similar makeup or so it seems) and he had horrible gastrointestinal problems as well as blinding headaches. He said that the only good thing about it was that he was physically so miserable that he did not have the mental space to worry about the psychiatric withdrawal symptoms such as an increase in anxiety. But now, after almost a year, he is doing well. Even with the stress of being a brand-new father he seems to be coping. I just keep finding excuses to not face it. I am sure it is partly just avoidance on my part.

Take care!

I really don't know my diagnoses, wow. I know depression for sure, but as far as the anxiety, I am not sure. I can be okay for a while, or odd symptoms can pop up out of the blue. And, of course, it's always a different one. Or, I can have parital or full-blown panic attacks. I take Lexapro, and Xanax when needed.

My diagnosis was initially Bipolar 2, but was recently changed to Bipolar 1 (the worse of the two), because of my frequent cycling. I currently take ALOT of meds & was seeing a therapist, but he released me for a few months because he felt confident I would do okay since my meds seem to be helping significantly. It is very hard because I never know what kind of mood I will wake up in & I have a small child to get ready & to school everyday.

Hey Jules, I would love to gradually stop taking my meds., but I know the after effects wouldn't be pretty, but I know how you feel...
