Feelings of Unreality, How do you deal?

Hi,I have had a harder week than normal for some reason. My heart has been racing and more extreme feelings of unreality, feeling like I am just 'watching' as the world goes by, and that I am not really here. I know this sounds so crazy. Does anyone else feel this way, and if so, how do you deal with it and bring yourself back from this horrible feeling? This has made me so stressed this week, I have felt my self starting to go into a full p/a but have managed to bring it down. But I hate not having control, and I just want to be normal again. Does anyone have any advice at all? It is so disheartening to feel this way. Thanx so much. hugs, shasta

Hi, Shasta! These feelings are so scary. That in it's self probably makes the unreality more intense. I keep myself busy with other activities & try not to make a mountain out of a molehill. I am so good @ that, so when I tell you this is what I do, I know that it's difficult. Using another area of my brain does help. Subtracting big numbers in my head works.

Shasta - I am having a hard week too. I've missed work this week so far and am having trouble getting ready for today. I switched meds so I think that may have something to do with it. I can't miss any more work, but at the same time it's like I don't even care I just feel sick! I hate feeling this way also and don't understand it sometimes. It frustrates me. I try to calm down by petting my dog or taking deep breaths and thinking of something fun that's going to happen later on. I hope this helps and if you ever need to talk, I'm here.

shasta ,hello i to have those spacy feelings and yea i hate it to ,but what works for me is not paying a whole lot of attention to it.Try to not let it scare you .i also tell myself that ,that is my clue to slow down and that i am letting to much get to me.that feelin was the worst for me of all my anxiety symptoms i would say that one bugged me the most.when i would tell my husband that i have that feeling he would say to me ....well your mind needs a break and by it spacying for awile was a good thing so it could relax itself.i myself believe that b cuz us who have anxiety love to keep our minds always worrying about something.good luck sweetie try and not worry about it to much bcuz feeding our anxiety always creates more.

Hi shasta, I so can relate to the feeling of unreality. I find that keeping myself busy even when I am really anxious helps me. I usually will spend time on the internet or read. Sometimes I am too anxious to do those things so I find that counting really helps me to calm down, and like Jan said breathing in thru your nose and watching your belly rise and out thru your mouth is very calming. Try to do positive self talk such as " I am going to be ok" "I am not going to die" "This is a normal response to stress" "This will end soon". I hope you feel better soon.

Hugs

Hi Orchid, I am sorry to hear you are having a bad week too. What meds did you switch from? I am taking Xanex but I cut the pills in quarters, and I am suppose to take 1 or 2,but they just make me so tired. My hubby is on me for not taking the reccommended dosage so I need to start doing that I guess! I will try taking your advice and pet one of my many kitty kids when this happens again. I was reading your bio and noticed you are a newlywed congrats! :0) I too love Little House and DOOL, what do you think of what is happening with Billie,Bo & Hope?
Thanx for your post, you hang in there too! And I wish you a lovely weekend. hugs, shasta

Hi Heather, I hope by the time you read this post you feeling this yucky way has subsided. What kind of meds are you on for the GAD? I know it is probably too soon to tell but I really hope they help you. I REALLY appreciate your offer to chat. I will have to take you up on that! I am on the west coast, so it is a little hard to catch up with you guys on the east. But I sure appreciate your thoughts, ideas, prayers and support.
