Anxiety and Sleep Deprivation

Hi Everyone,

I have noticed that I am much more likely to feel a panic attack is looming if I have not had enough sleep. Also - and I know the contraindication of this so no lectures please - I feel more likely to have a panic attack the day after I have had alcohol.

Anyone else experience these?

Thanks!
Jules

Hi Jules,
Yes I feel worse if I don't get enough sleep. However my anxiety is so bad that I can't relax enough to sleep. It stinks!!!!

ITA with you, Jules. Lack of sleep is a real trigger for my anxiety. I try to stick to a routine. If I have a poor night, I will take a rest sometime during the day. It doesn't always amount to a nap, but just some quiet time, a breather away from the everyday stress & strain. I will meditate, as well.

Another thing I will mention & hope it doesn't trigger anyone, is lack of sleep causes me to be more aware of sensations such as palpitations(skipped heartbeats). Boy does that get me scared! But, I have learned to practice my breathing & relaxation exercises & refocus my thoughts away from the sensations. HTH (((hugs))) jan
