Hi All,
Well most of you know that I have been having a tough time with all this, I am going to see my primary Dr tomorrow and I am going to talk to her about getting a precription for adivan or something else.
I am at the point where I feel that I may been suffering foolishly here. Maybe if I took the edge off then the fear would stop overtaking me.

I was wondering what you all found helpful and didn't like.
I know their is adivan and klonopen.. are ther anymore?

How many mg's did you take? Did you feel drugged? Do you think that it helped until the meds kicked in?

TIA
Heather

Hi Heather,

I know I talked a bit to you about the meds, but I want to just restate it, so you can remember.

I take generic Xanax, .25 mg tablets, which I think is the lowest dose. In actuality, when my symptoms are milder, or I catch them early, I only take a half tablet. I don't feel drugged. I just feel realize, after about 45 minutes to an hour, that I don't feel so "weird," or "stressed," etc., anymore. My mom take Ativan, and I have had to borrow from her once or twice when I didn't have mine, and hers seem much stronger. I think she takes 2 mg of that, and I cut it in half when I took it. I don't know Klonopen.

I figure, what have you got to lose, trying them, if you feel you need relief? If you don't notice a difference, or don't like them, you can decide not to take them anymore.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

Here are the benzodiazepines that have been discussed on the board:

ativan(lorazepam)

valium(diazepam)

klonopin(clonazepam)

xanax(alprazolam)

Heather,

I am taking Klonopin I have only been taking it for about two weeks but I think that it is helping some. I started with 1/4 of a .5mg pill twice a day and now I am taking 1/2 of a .5mg pill twice a day. The only thing is that I feel like it takes forever to start working and I feel tired a lot.

Good Luck Tomarrow!

Hi Heather,

I've taken Klonopin & am now on Xanax. Personally I liked the klonopin better, it took longer to work but I felt it worked better. I have .5mg xanax and it works ok but I am finding that one isn't quite doing it for me anymore and have upped it another 1/2 a pill.

Good Luck tomorrow. I hope to see you at chat Tuesday night.

Hugs & Prayers,

Danielle

Thank you all! You all gave me helpful info..

It seems as though Klonopen is what I think would be best, just wondering.. you say it takes longer to work... do you mean weeks? days? hours?

ALso I noticed the none of you said you felt drugged, thats good. My biggest fear is that it will intenify the out of reality feeling.. did any of you have that issue? I know that for some it helped the feeling..

TIA
Heather

These meds are used for ASAP effect, Heather. They don't take much time @ all. Most act in 20 to 30 minutes. For me, klonopin takes @ least an hour or more, but once it works, I can be relaxed for several hours. That's why I rarely use the klonopin anymore. I can usually relax & practice my breathing & get good results before the klonopin would actually take effect. HTH (((hugs))) jan

It takes about 45 minutes for me to feel the klonopin but it really does last so much longer and I need so much less of it than I do with xanax.
