It gets worse before it gets better??

Hi All,
Yesterday I went to see my Dr.
She told me that the meds take 4-6 weeks to work starting with every increase, so I went up to 20mg last Friday so that started my 4-6 weeks all over again. Have you heard of this? I suppose it makes since but it stinks..
Also, she said that these meds most likely will make anxiety worse before it makes it better, that is news to me. Have you heard of that?
I haven't taken the Klonopin yet, I am scared to. I can't take it the 1st time while I am home alone with the kids, just in case I have a reaction or get too tired..
TIA
Heather

Hi Heather,
My doctor told me that when you raise your meds you do have an adjustment period again but it is not as long as the orginal wait. Also I did notice that it got worse before it got better but not for long.
I was very afraid to take the Klonopin to the first time. That is why I started my taking 1/4 of a pill. You are right though I wouldn't take it with the kids there. I send my son to grandma's because I knew I might get tired.
Is there anyone who can watch the twins while you try this?
Sarah
Nobody is here today...
I was smart though, I gave dh the insert from the pharmacy and didn't read it. he read it to make sure it was ok for me.
She gave me 0.5 mg and told me to take 1/2-1 pill 2x a day. I will start with 1/2 a pill.
Is that what you have? Did it just relax you? I am so scared that I will feel the whole out of reality thing worse with this, like I will feel drugged. I am scared..

Hi, Heather! I agree with Sarah. It's isn't like starting from square one when you have the med increased. For some ppl it might be & I'm sure your doctor doesn't want you to be disappointed & concerned if you are in the minority. Anxiety does increase for *some* ppl after starting AD's. (Lexapro would be an AD.) It is a temporary effect. Nothing to be concerned about for you, since you passed the initial period. It is so hard for us anxiety sufferers to just accept the facts. Try not to focus on the med increase, because you
Ooo, Jan, good idea taking it before the chat! I hope you decide to try it, Heather! Please don't be afraid...

Hi Heather
I am sorry I didn't get right back to you. Yes I take 1/2 of a .5 mg pill of Klonopin twice a day. The first couple of days I felt tired like I wanted to take a nap but not so bad that I had to or I would fall asleep standing up. That went away after a few days though. Everyone is different but this is a small amount and you will be fine. Take it shen DH is home and have him hold your hand. I find that I am most anxious the first 30 minutes after I take a new med and then I am fine. My DH can just help you get through those 30 minutes.
Jan's idea about taking it before Chat is good to. The first time I took it I was in Chat and Jan talked me through it. Good luck and let me know how you do!
Sarah
