Hi.

I suffer from panic attacks/agoraphobia while driving on interstate highways. Now that I'm finished with school- graduated last week, I have time work on this problem. I cannot afford much therapy if any at all. If possible would like to take care of this myself to save money. I've been searching online, but have often stumbled on sites that are trying to sell me something.

Does anyone know of some good informational sites that are not solely interested in selling you something? Or, can you recommend a good book? Tapes? DVD's? CD's? And, is there a such thing as good online therapy? I've noticed some online therapists. I don't know if they are cheaper than the in person therapists or not. I know the average office visit charge in my area is $80 an hour for a clinical psychologist. It gets higher as the degree and such get higher. But, I live on a budget and couldn't afford much therapy.

A little info on me...I have been successful in beating my social anxiety. So, I'm hoping I can "attack" this interstate anxiety and be successful. Actually, I will be successful. But, to ease the battle injuries, I would like to know what is the best approach. LOL

Thanks!

Hi, buggie! Nice to see you posting. Congrats on finishing school! It's commendable that you're ready to face your interstate driving fears. I didn't drive @ all for 3 years & used the small step approach. I began by driving to the end of my street & back. Then, ever increasing my distance & time away from home. I pushed myself till I was anxious, but not panicking. I was seeing a therapist @ the time for depression & anxiety & was taking an antidepressant. You might consider hypnotherapy which has been successful for some of our members, including my co-cl, Suz. She'll be along to share her thoughts. It might prove more affordable. I copied & pasted the former post below. I encourage you to post anytime & join us in chat. Our members are a kind & caring group who are willing to share their thoughts. Drop in anytime. Sending P&PT's your way. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan
