Do you get anxiety out of nowhere?
| Thu, 05-12-2005 - 5:34pm |
I have had a better week this week but today we stayed home all day and it seems as though when I am home all day I do worse.
Today was going ok and all of a sudden I was watching tv and I started to feel that out of reality feeling, I got scared and haven't felt great since.
This also happened last night..
Last night I also felt as though my heart was pounding but when dh felt my pulse it was fine, is it a matter of perception or what?
Just wondering if your anxiety comes out of nowhere? Can you get anxiety over being scared about anxiety???
I am praying that maybe I am doing better and that I just have to get over the hump... I need to stop being so afraid. Its like a vicious circle...
Heather

Yes I have anxiety that comes out of nowhere and what you are talking about is called anticipatory anxiety and it is very real, it's exactly what you said, anxiety caused by being afraid of anxiety. The same thing can also apply to panic attacks. I do this all of the time, I make a mountain out of a mole hill that isn't even there. What I'm learning is that I can't control everything but I haven't mastered the control of anxiety yet.
I know the ladies here will have some great suggestions for you in ways that you can try to avoid this kind of anxiety/panic.

Hugs & Positive Thoughts Always,
Heather,
Oh, yes, you can DEFINITELY get anxiety over getting anxiety! It is actually pretty common. That's where your self-talk comes in handy, telling yourself you will be okay, etc. Maybe you can learn some of those skills from the doctor.
