Hi guys, I am currently on Xanex, but I feel like I need a anti-depressant possibly too...I think I have been really down for a while now, and have just tried to push it aside but it is not working. I just do not feel happy. I don't really want to rely on meds but has anyone taken a anti-depressant along with Xanex? Or is there anti-depressent you would reccomend that works for you, along with something like Xanex?
I tried Paxil with very bad results so I went back to Xanex, I am a little scared to change again, but am willing to do anything to feel good and happy again. I know I was once! Thanks for your help gals. I hope you are having a happy day. hugs, shasta

Hi Shasta,

I have taken xanax for years, but I only take it when I need it. I have also been on anti-depressants for 10 years. Up until last summer, I was taking Serzone, which is being removed from the market. I have taken Lexapro since then, 10 mg. If you want more infomation on antidepressant meds, there is an ivillage board specifially for it.

By the way, that is exactly the predicament I have been having recently, having my anxiety lessen, and feeling the depression more now. So, I know how you feel.

Finding a combination that works is so individual. I took luvox & anafranil successfully for depression & panic without anything else. But, the klonopin I took with effexor XR & it worked well. HTH Shasta! Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Hi Shasta,
I am on lexapro and klonopin and that seems to be a great combination. I have had VERY little side effects.
My Dr only gave me enough klonpin for 30 days though. I am NOT happy about that at all.

And yes I know about being happy once, 5 weeks ago I was "normal" and had none of this, so I'm right there with you.

It sounds as though and antideprssent may be just what you need. I don't have depression but was given lexapro for anxiety. For me (I hope) its just a bonus that its an antidepressent so I won't get depressed.

I think that it may help you...

Shasta,

I have been on zoloft for about six plus years for depression. I take xanax only as needed. If you believe you suffer from depression, please see your doctor. Some antidepressants (like zoloft and many others) are good for anxiety as well. There is no need to suffer with the huge array of antidepressants out there. If one does not work, your doctor can try another. (or a combination of them.) My doc says every drug works differently on every person. I really believe antidepressants saved my life and help me function.

PS I began taking the meds with my internist but I am now seeing a psychiatrist as a pdoc. I highly recommend seeing a psychiatrist for meds. (Psychiatrist are definitely the experts in the field!!)

Hugs. Selena
