Introduction and questions... :-)

Hi all, my name is Amber. I have a million and one questions. I am thinking i am suffering horribly with anxiety. I don't like going into crowds, or stores, or malls, and driving has even become a pain, etc etc etc. My therapist gave me zoloft for depression. I have anxieties about taking medicines because i don't want to have to depend on them forever. I still force myself to go to school, and play softball even tho i get pretty anxious and dizzy doing so. I am getting to where i don't like to do much of anything, i have a 3 year old that i am staying home with. Her father and i are going through a custody thing, we all live together (seperate rooms) and get along well. His lawyer is trying to bring my med files and mental files into the mix. I wonder can having anxiety disorders have an affect on custody? I don't know its alot to figure out. Does anyone else get freaked in crowds or driving? What are the best medicines for anxiety and is anyone taking zoloft? Thanks, Amber (lost in nowhere land)

Hi Amber! And WELCOME TO OUR BOARD!!! :0)
You have come to the right place. Alot of us experience that symptoms you are dealing with. I hope we can help to answer some of your questions. I don't have alot of answers, because I am just learning to deal with this myself. I have p/a,agoraphobia and I believe depression,to boot! whoohoo! LOL! I hope you will feel free to post your questions. I know nothing about custody type of things, but I am glad you and your baby's father get along well. What does your lawyer say about his lawyer being able to bring in your medical files? I don't think that should be fair, especially with the privacy act...But I am no lawyer or doctor. Maybe someone else on the board will know the answer.
Hope to hear from you soon! And again WELCOME! hugs, shasta

Wow thats a mouth full! I hope things are getting better for you. Apparently the files are irrelevent. I am not signing a darn thing for anyone to look at anything ;) i am just stubborn like that. I think its more the mother of his than anything. Anyways thank goodness there are ppl that understand out there, i seriously thought i was loosing my mind. Thanks for opening the boards to me and have a great night!

Hi, Amber & welcome to our caring community. You are not alone. Just like Shasta has said, we all have experiences with anxiety disorders. I have PA's with agoraphobia & OCD as well. You can learn to cope with these things & live the good life you deserve.

Research has proven that a combination of meds & cognitive behavioral therapy nets the best results. However, there are many on the board searching for alternatives & some have found them. We will support you in whatever method you choose. Zoloft is a good med & one that has been used successfully for panic attacks.

I don't really have any first hand legal knowledge. I will say that having your own attorney to protect your interests is a must. Don't depend on any attorney to protect all 3 of you. That is clearly a conflict of interest. Ultimately a judge will decide from the evidence he is presented. We'd all like to think that judge's are fair & unbiased & jury's make the right decision. But this is the year 2005 & if you can turn on a tv, you know that's not true.

Please bookmark our board to your favorites. Make our board your home. There's alot of good hearted folks here willing to share their experiences. Join in our discussions & chats. We care. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
