Hi i havent been here in a while i think i have been doing so much better i am now on 25mg of zoloft since feb. and have been going to counsling. which helps so much. the only thing i have noticed is that before my period i feel very on edge and start worrying about my blood pressure again and just very anxious like before. also lately the past week or two i have been worried about my blood pressure and that something is wrong with me. i have been tired the last couple of days and that bothered me to. this morning i woke up with a cold so that might be why i was tired. I did call the dr office and ask them why when i go to kinney or a drug store and do my blood pressure when i first get there it is high like 160/98 and i am on a diuretic but after sitting there maybe 5 minutes and doing it like 3 other times it is normal 128/80 130/80 etc he said that those are the normal ones and that they are the readings to take. because when i first get there i am nervous i drove etc and that affects the blood pressure. but i see other people who just sit down theirs is normal first try 124/74 but they are skinny to i am overweight. I thought about asking him if i can take 50mg of zoloft to see if that would help. do you think it might be just because of the low dose i need more to make me feel better again?

sorry so long.

Hi, Julie! Nice to see you here. Sorry to hear that the anxiety is bothering you again. Many of us have to deal with extra anxiety around period time.

I agree with your dr. That first blood pressure is not reliable & for all the reasons you stated. Generally, a pressure after resting about 10 or 15 minutes is most accurate. As for what *other ppl* get on their first reading, even though their's looks normal, it wouldn't be accepted as accurate either. I know it's hard, but try not to judge yourself by other's. That is something that is very common with anxiety sufferers. We worry way too much about what others do & think & how we measure up. It can be unproductive & exhausting. TBH, I would limit the times I checked my blood pressure. I would only do it once a week, unless the dr. said you needed it done more often.

You are worried about being overweight. Shasta has started a thread in *our fun stuff* folder & we're trying to boost our exercise levels.

Julie, believe me, you are making your bp high yourself! Its recommmended that you ALWAYS take your bp after you've been sitting quietly and relaxing for a few minutes. You were anxious when you took your first reading - that is why it was high. When I go to the doctor, mine is ALWAYS high (156/100 last time). My bp is normally LOW - 110/60 or so, usually. So this is proof that being nervous and on edge can dramatically raise your bp. I have to take Xanax before every doctor appt., (on my doctor's advice) or they start worrying because its so high. When I take the Xanax, my reading is normal. Don't increase the doseage of your medication on your own - only on your doctor's advice. But its obvious to me that your bp is NOT staying high all of the time - otherwise you wouldn't have normal readings after relaxing. Having it stay high for short periods is not going to harm you in any way. When dh and I come home from the doctor's office, my bp is back to below normal within minutes! That should convince you.
