Hi. I'm not new here, just posting under a different name.

I've been considering hypnotherapy for my agoraphobia in regard to panic attacks on interstate highways. I finally found someone who is under my insurance network. I'll have to meet my deductible first, but then it will pay 50%. I ran into a therapist I once saw years ago last week, and I asked her about hypnotherapy. She said that it was only as good as the therapist and to be careful of those not practicing it properly. I asked her if she recommended anyone. She did. But, this therapist isn't under my insurance network.

This weekend, I drove off into the country out of my "safe" area with much success. I think that I wouldn't need months of therapy to be successful with the interstate highway. So, with that typed, I wonder if I should go with the therapist recommended to me or go with the one under my insurance? The only benefit finanically would be paying some on my deductible- either way, I'll have to pay full price.

What our you guys' opinions?

Thanks for your time!

I will be anxious to hear some responses to your post.

Hi I have a hypnotherapist he is excellent!!
I would suggest trying the one that was recommended.
If the insurance issue is not a problem.
It takes time to get to know the therapist and feel
comfortable enough to be hypnotised.
I actually overcame my fears of driving on my own.
I just drove on part of the highway with hubby there
a small amount at a time. I was able to overcome the
big issues such as bridges, passing trucks, mountains,
and the rest! We drove cross country last fall it felt
so wonderful not to be scared! I enjoyed it so much!!
I wish you well with whatever you try- Take care, Judy

Thank you! I'm going to educate myself now. I made an appointment with a therapist, but she is so expensive. I just want to get the hypnotherapy, but she requires two sessions before the hypnotherapy. That will run me $240. The hypnotherapy is $135 per session. I'm not sure I can afford that. Actually, I'm already dreading going in debt for it. I was feeling fine stress wise and now I feel stressed out over the money. Whew!

Thanks again,

andie

Our cl-Suz(dustydavissss) has posted about her hypnosis experience. I think she went for one intense session & a follow up. I hope she'll be in tonight to give you her thoughts. For what it's worth, the Lucinda Bassett program that some of our boardies have purchased runs @ least $500. That is pretty much *do it yourself.* I can well understand your stress over the cost. I would get things ironed out with the therapist, as to what you can expect & what she will provide in the event you need extra sessions. I think most therapists will compromise a little. Can you hang on a little until you have most of the money saved? I know that would be a stretch for me to come up with.

Hi,

Thanks for your input. I had the impression that therapy sessions normally cost $80 an hour. That's what they used to be, but it seems therapy is going up with everything else- except my wage. I live alone on a meger income. The thought of spending $500- I think I would just throw caution to the wind and hit the interstate. LOL Maybe...LOL

I would say that I'm eager and need little intervention to be successful with this and I'll tell you why. Back when I was still in college (I'm not a college kid- I worked a full-time job and attended night school), the college I was attending had a slump in course offerings. The bad economy caused the state to cut back funds to the community colleges. Well, I didn't want to sit out a semester, so I drove up to another community college for transfer classes. This other community college was located on a road that I had a phobia of. Driving up there to register was Hades!

The first month of classes there were very stressful for me. The traffic was heavy and I was so nervous on that road. But, after the month of driving it, I got over the fear. I still occassionally have a panic attack on that road, but it doesn't turn into a fear of driving on the road.

I took that same road last Sunday to see my grandparents.

I'll do as you suggested. Thanks for your input.
