Freaking over long car ride. What to do?

Whenever I go on long car rides or I am in cities that I don’t know very well, I have to pee five times more than normal. I live in MA and I recently went to Boston for a bachelorette party. I had to pee 4 times to my friends once.

I have a trip coming up in August where there are 10 of us driving to Montreal. 6 hour drive. I usually feel like I have to pee every hour on long car rides. It’s really embarrassing and I’m scared that people will be really annoyed with pulling over so much (I usually just pee on the side of the highway if no one else needs to stop at a rest stop). There will most likely be 3 cars and we will have people sharing ours as well. There is only one other girl besides me and I know the guys could probably make the whole trip without stopping once if I wasn’t there (I don’t know her well enough to know if she would have to stop as much but I doubt it.). I don’t have health insurance and cannot afford to get medicine for an overactive bladder(if that is what it is. I doubt it though, since it's only on car rides).

In all reality it is probably a nervous reaction and all in my head. But I am still freaking out about it horribly.(and can't afford anxiety meds, either) I don’t want everyone mad at me.

Oddly enough, I usually don’t drink anything knowing I have a long ride and that doesn’t seem to matter. I take a couple sips of water here and there so I don’t get dehydrated but we’re talking a half bottle of water in about 4 or 5 hours. And I avoid coffee and alcohol cause I know they are diuretics. Nothing seems to help!

If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do, they would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Nice to have you here in our kind & supportive community. I am sure this is NOT all in your head. It is a very real concern for you. If you do have a treatable medical condition, you need to see a dr. None of us can make a diagnosis.

Hi I have an overactive bladder!! I stop to pee often!
I know it is embarassing but you may find someone who
has the same problem--- or if not just try and tell
them this is how it is! I am sure that they will not
hold it against you!! Those of us with anxiety perceive
that others are annoyed when they aren't-- keep that in mind!!
Have a wonderful time and try some cranberry juice! =0) Judy
