Mornings...

I found that usually when I wake up in the morning, I am very stressed and anxious. I invent all kinds of terrible (untrue) scenarios in my head and make myself worse. Then, as the day goes by, a few hours pass and then I feel better and back in control. Of course, being busy helps but it's just not always an option to be. Anyone else experience this? What do you do?

Hi I know what you mean!! The whole day is ahead
of you and all that you have to do--- or not!!
It is a hard time the meds have worn off - in my case
the nightmares still have a grip on me!
I have planned the night before for the next day so
I already know what is coming up.
It is a good time to review some of your journal and
see the positive things that have gone on in your life lately!
I have to say since I am now retired I love to know that
I don't have to hurry and shower and dress and get to work!!
It is such a relief to me! I am in my glory every morning I get
to sleep in! You could always look in the mirror and say
hi today is yours--- you can choose to enjoy it!!
Take care and hope your mornings improve. =0) Judy

Hi, Soledad! Nice to have you back. I am sorry to hear about the tough times in the morning. There was a time when I panicked upon awakening. I began taking luvox & after a few weeks it kicked in & I began to feel better. As time passed, that awakening fear became less of a problem & just a distant memory. Have you tried listening to soothing music? Perhaps practicing your belly breathing or relaxation exercises before you get out of bed? Any distraction such as making lists or subtracting numbers in your mind can take the focus off of these anxious feelings. I hope you feel better soon. It can & will happen. It never happens soon enough for us): Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Hi Soledad,
I have a similar experience in the mornings, although it has improved a lot since i started taking medication.
anyway, i try to take a cognitive behavioral approach, but telling myself that there is nothing to worry about as soon as i feel the first sign of panic. i also remind myself that i felt the same way every morning this week and the last week, and nothing bad ever happened...so why would something bad suddenly happen today? those are some of the tricks that have worked for me. you have to find a mantra that works for you and that you believe in.
hope that helps a bit

Although everyone else's suggestions sound more reasonable, lol, I set my alarm for 3 a.m. and take a xanax - makes my day start a whole lot less stressed, and no panic. When I have panic attacks upon awakening, it freaks me out for the whole day!
