Hello,
I am new to the board but not to ivillage. I have always had a little trouble being in very large crowds but not all the time. Xmas eve mass for example when I was younger I would pass out. I remember feeling like I couldn't breathe, there was too many people around me. I have not had that problem in sometime though. There are many times that, and the only way to explain it is that my insides shake. I don't know how else to say it but it occurs when I am stressed and i have to remind myself to stop and take a deep breath. I have done yoga and use the breathing and it seems to help. Lately though, riding in a car with someone brings this on. This weekend it was so bad that I was miserable. We went out of town and at certain points on interstate I had to close my eyes. Once we were there we were driving down a boulevard along the beach and I was so nervous I guess I had to concentrate on not paying attention to the road. My DH is a good driver, no accidents etc. but I felt like I was coming unglued. It got so bad that he reached across and grabbed my hand and actually was telling me to breathe deeply. I am fine when I drive.

Is this an anxiety or panic attack? If so, what has started to cause it, why pretty much all of a sudden? What do I do about it?

Thanks for any replies.

Tthanks for the reply. It really is kind of scary knowing that it came basically out of nowhere. Glad to have found the board.

Hello, Heidi! It's great to have you here. You are not alone. Many of us have had similiar experiences. Sometimes they do come out of the blue. Other times, we can identify extra stress or losses or even changes in our lives that seem to trigger our anxiety. Although you may feel this is something different than what you have had in the past, we do tend to pick up more anxieties & fears along the way, when our initial problem is left untreated.

ITA with Heather. A thorough physical exam is a must. There are some illnesses out there that can look alot like anxiety/panic.

Heidi, I'm so happy you found our board. I agree with Heather and cl-Jan totally. My panic and anxiety had a trigger, also. Has anything changed in your life recently? My attacks are always worse when I am overtired or overstressed, also. I'm starting to lay down and watch a movie at 4 with my son, that seems to be helping. Hope to "see" you on the chat on Tues.
