Reading over the board messages, I see that some of you are having anxiety episodes.

Nice to hear from you, Terry. Here's what I just read in my Yankee Magazine newsletter. Just some thoughts:) jan

Summer Solstice (June 21)

The timing of the summer solstice depends on when the Sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator. This occurs annually sometime between June 20 and 22. This year, it occurs exactly at 2:46 A.M. EDT, heralding the beginning of summer. The word solstice is from the Latin solstitium, from sol (sun) and stitium (to stop), reflecting the fact that the Sun appears to stop at this time (and again at the winter solstice).
Full Strawberry Moon (June 22)
This full Moon is the lowest of the year. It climbs barely 25 degrees for observers in the northern half of the hemisphere. Native Americans called it the Strawberry Moon, but it is also called the Rose Moon, a name brought to this country by early European settlers.
Midsummer Day (June 24)
In Lithuanian tradition, the dew on Midsummer Day was said to make young girls beautiful and old people look younger. It was also thought that walking barefoot in the dew would keep one's skin from getting chapped.

It was customary to honor all men named John on this day by fixing a wreath of oak leaves around their doors. This was usually done in secret, and John had to guess who did it or catch the person in the act, in which case he then had to give the person a treat.

Midsummer Eve and Midsummer Day are considered sacred to lovers.

On Midsummer Eve, pick seven different wildflowers, then walk home silently and backward. Place the flowers under your pillow and dream of your future husband.

Dog Days Begin (July 3)

The phrase "Dog Days" conjures up the hottest, most sultry days of summer. The Old Farmer's Almanac lists the traditional timing of the Dog Days: the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, coinciding with the heliacal (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. The rising of Sirius does not actually affect the weather (some of our hottest and most humid days occur after August 11), but for the ancient Egyptians, Sirius appeared just before the season of the Nile's flooding, so they used the star as a "watchdog" for that event. Since its rising also coincided with a time of extreme heat, the connection with hot, sultry weather was made for all time:

Dog Days bright and clear
Indicate a happy year.
But when accompanied by rain,
For better times our hopes are vain.

thanks for your input, i had checked my calendar last week, trying to find an answer for the sudden increase in anxiety for so many of us. I thought it was strange that we were all having such a hard time. I didn't realize what summer solstice was when i saw it on the calendar today. It does make sense!

So it makes sense why we are all feeling extra anxious lately. I thought it so weird that we were all feeling awful...

Hello Sheri Ann,

It would seem that with the weather getting nice and it being spring that it would help us.

Hi all, at least we now have a reason for our anxiety levels to be so up. It was driving me crazy. I hope everyone is having a better day. Today has been pretty good for me, went to get a hair trim, bought a birthday gift for my grandson, went to the grocery store. Hey, I even had some energy today. There's HOPE. Jan

Thanks Terry, I am feeling better now. Try to come by chat tonight, it has helped me alot. I know what you mean about the trash. I'm so glad I can go out in the yard without being afraid now - but it took me 5 months. I have a real phobia about the shower, I have no idea what brought it on. I take baths & wash my hair in the kitchen sink or in the bathtub but am deathly afraid of taking a shower, wierd, huh?
