Is anybody currently taking Celexa or has taken it in the past? This is the med that I am and I was just wondering if anybody could comment on their experiences with it ...

Hope everyone is having a good day ... I know I'm trying hard to hang in there :-)

Here's some info on Celexa, Maribeth. Remember that antidepressants are used for anxiety, too.

Hi, we have a great board I'd like to invite you to: Antidepressant Meds.

Here's some threads that you might benefit from reading:

Hi! I took Celexa for a couple of years. It worked wonders for me. I was crying all the time for no reason and I freaked out all the time. After I took it, it was unbelieveable. I felt so much better. You should watch what you eat though. Antidepressants might make you gain weight. I gained some weight on it. I switched just because I wanted to try something different. Not that it stopped working. Again, like reading the other posts, meds are different for everyone. I reccommended Celexa to my cousin's wife and she likes it too... so hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks ... how long did you take it regularly before you really noticed the difference? I had been on other meds and switched because of the weight gain ... that's the last thing I want! I hope Celexa doesn't cause that to happen ... How many mg were you taking?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes, weight gain unfortunately is the side effect of most antidepressants that I hate. My doctor has told me that it may not actually make your appetite increase more so that it may make you feel like you are hungry even though you are not. It tricks you into thinking you are, therefore increases your appetite because you eat even though you aren't hungry. I can't really remember how long it took before I noticed a difference. Probably about a month. Maybe not even. I first started on 10mg then noticed that I was still a little cranky. I then went up to 40mg. I felt pretty good after that. I was on that amount for awhile then I noticed I would start getting irritated again. That's why I switched. I thought trying something new might help. I'm currently on Effexor and working my way up on that one. It's working. I'm still having bad days as I had one yesterday because I ran out of my RX over the weekend. Apparently the withdrawls are really bad on Effexor. But hopefully Celexa will help you like it did me.
