Anxiety and Fatigue

I was just curious if anyone has had or has fatigue associated with anxiety. I am tired all the time and wake up feeling totally unrested. I've spoken with a therapist and they didn't think anxiety could be causing the degree of tiredness that I experience, but I think it might be contributing. I am scheduled for a sleep study, but I have to wait until October, so I want to look into any feasible causes of the fatigue in the meantime. Also, what have you done, if anything, that helped to alleviate the fatigue? Thanks so much for any input!

Oh I AM TIRED!!! My sleep is full of nightmares and restlessness!
I take Paxil and xanax but that does not help my sleep!
If I am stressed out all the energy I have is used on keeping
myself going!! I would however check to see if you have any physical
problem causing your being tired! Take care, Judy

Judy,

Didn't I read that Paxil causes nightmares? Are you aware of this?

I would suggest exercise just to keep your energy levels up. Also make sure you're getting enough iron in your diet, either through food or a supplement. I have felt fatigued from anxiety before--thoughts just wear me out sometimes. Hope that helps!

Anxiety takes it's toll on us both physically & mentally. I have many sleep disruptions, so I have always felt this was the cause of my fatigue. It has been suggested that I may have sleep apnea. (When you stop breathing for short periods of time.) I never had a sleep study to find out, but it's a major cause of daytime sleepiness & exhaustion.

I have read about chronic fatigue syndrome & ppl with it do sleep, but for whatever reason, it's not the deep sleep that is required to feel rested.I hope you keep in touch & let us know what you find out when you have your sleep study done. Here's some new info on iVillage. Check it out! (((hugs))) jan

Hello everyone, I totally agree that anxiety makes you tired and sometimes that increases the anxiety. It's a vicious circle. I try to walk and keep busy doing things, have been doing more fun things in a days time....and trying to laugh more. My grand daughter told me that I didn't laugh as much as I used to....so I thought I would work on trying to change that. Sometimes the meds will make you very tired. Ativan did that to me. I hope everybody is having a pretty good day. Sometimes it feels like 2 steps forward 1 step back, but if we didn't have this board to post to what would we do. Everyone is so supportive and ready to listen. Jan

Hi there,

I just wanted to add my experience.

I agree with the others that it's an awful cycle. I find that if I am tired that my anxiety is MUCH worse and when my anxiety is bad then I don't sleep good. I have started taking klonopin before bed.. my pdoc suggested that either I do that or take a sleep aid. I chose the klonopin.

Can you try to read before bed or maybe do something relaxing? Also, exercise wat some point during the day and make sure that you are eating properly and taking a multivitimin.

Take care and I agree with the others to still follow up and make sure that its nothing else.

Thank you for all of the replies .... I have been trying to excerise more and I have been eating a lot better and taking vitamins. I have no trouble falling asleep or staying asleep through the night, so I don't think a sleep aid would help. I do notice that when I stress about being tired and looking exhausted, I do get a little more anxious, which in turn I'm sure makes me more tired. I just can't seem to break that cycle.
