Anxiety Meds - Any suggestions

Since the buspar is making me so anxious I was thinking when I go to the dr this morning that I should ask for something else. I have tried just about everything, valium, xanax, xanax xr and now the buspar. Is there anything else in a different "family" that anyone knows of?

Hi Alison,
I was taking klonopin, which is from a similar family to xanax - benzodiazepines. it worked really well for me, with little or no side effects. the only thing was that i felt realy sleep the first week of taking it, but that feeling went away rather quickly. I know several other people on this board have taken klonopin with good results.

Feeling sleepy would be a nice change right about now. I sit on the edge of my seat all day at work and then when I get home just feel edgy. If my kids or husband drops something I jump. I can't sleep without waking numerous times at night. I take ativan to make me sleep but since the buspar it hasn't been working. I just want to feel more relaxed. This permanent stressed out/anxious feeling is terrible.

Thanks.

I've used Klonopin as well and it worked wonders.

I use klonopin right now and have been for about a month or so. It has taken the edge off so much and works great. I take .25 mg 3x a day. I take my last dose at night so it will help me sleep.

I still function perfectly durning the day, it does make me a bit tired but not too bad. And at night its just enough to help me slleep...

Well I'm back from the dr. She is my primary care physician and thinks I should go back to the psychiatrist. She is also sending me for a cat scan which I have never had before. Any experience with cat scans? Anyway, I am going off my cymbalta and starting zoloft, decreasing my buspar and increasing my elavil. I guess we'll see what happens soon with my new "drug cocktail".

Thanks for all your advice.

Hi Alison,

I had a cat scan a few months ago. It isn't bad at all and certinally doesn't hurt. They don't put your whole body in and all you hear when then do it is a whooshing sound from the machine.

Whya does your Dr want you to have it done?

She said she wanted to make sure there wasn't anything "structurally" wrong with me. I am not sure what that means. I guess she wants to be sure that there isn't anything more than the anxiety and depression going on in this little brain of mine. Scary, huh?

Since there really isn't a test for anxiety, the doctors do their best by *ruling out* other causes for your symptoms. I hope all goes well with you, Alison. This should be an easy test to get through & the CT scan will find nothing. This should reassure you even further. Please don't be scared. I'll be praying for you. (((hugs))) jan
