CT Scan and Anxiety
13
Thu, 07-14-2005 - 12:59pm

I just had a CT scan done to rule out any problems that may be affecting my medication. The anxiety meds that I have taken lately haven't helped. Anyway, the technician gives me the iv and then starts asking me if I feel this or that.... Of course, I felt all the things he was asking me (i.e., warm, like you are peeing yourself). I was just upset that he didn't warn me what I was going to feel. Anway, I held it together for a couple minutes and then started having the anxiety and had to hold back my tears. Obviously, I hope the results come back normal, but I just can't believe that this is the way this procedure is done, instead of explaining the iv beforehand.

Now I am back at work with nothing to do, as usual, but think about the results and my anxiety. I am soooooo frustrated with myself (the anxiety) and the fact that this is the third job I have had in a year that I feel like I don't have enough to do. It only adds to my anxiety to be this way.

Thanks to all for listening.

Alison

Alison,

I am So sorry that you had to go through that. When I had my ct scan they didn't give me and IV I just had to drink some chalk tasting stuff. That is instead of the IV. I thought that only impatient people got the IV. Geeze, I am sorry.

BUT you made it through and then you get the negative results you will feel better. I know that I feel so much better knowing that my head is all ok.

Let us know how things turn out...

Hi Alison, I am SO sorry you had to go thru that when it was an already uncomfortable situation-with that med tech making your anxiety worse. I was nervous going in for my CT scan too, but the tech I had explained every single thing before she did it-I too had to drink the chaulk fluid, but then you have to have the IV so that the dye in the chaulk fluid shows up in the xrays. The tech I had told me that I may experience the feeling of going to the bathroom, but not to worry because that was normal, and you really weren't going to go to the bathroom. I think that is terrible that your tech was so uncaring.
I am just glad that is over for you, and that you get the results back soon. Can I ask what meds you are currently on for your anxiety? Please let us know when you get the results k? In the meantime, I will be sending you P&PT's. BIG HUG,shasta
p.s. Also-I just thought of something-I too had a really bad experience with a nurse in the ER when I had my major p/a over a yr ago. Me & my dh had never met someone so uncaring in our lives. I was brought to the ER in an ambulance, was shaking all over, and she was yelling at me to hold still so she could take my blood pressure,I kept telling her I was trying to,then she proceeded to joke and talk to another nurse about the love lives right over me,(weird! All this going on while I am in a full blown P/A!) And then when I had to use the restroom, she wouldn't help me! Then she totally turned her back on my dh when he asked her for assistance...Unbelievable! I couldnt believe this person was in the nursing profession...I still hold alot of anger about that nurse, and have always wanted to write a letter, but never did-I was afraid if I had to go back to the ER,I would get Nurse Ratchet again, and they would code my file or something! LOL!
Mean people suck! Anyways,Alison-Just wanted you to know you are not alone at all in having a terrible experience with someone in the medical field. It is just too bad some of the ppl are like that! But I bet your next experience will be better. Thank goodness there are not many mean ppl like that! Take Care! Hope to hear from you soon!

Thank you for sharing your ER story with me. You are right, some of the medical professionals are very uncaring. It really isn't fair to those that really do care and show it. Anyway, I am currently on Buspar for the anxiety and take Zoloft and Elavil at night. I was given xanax and valium previously, but it worked at first and then it was like I became immune to it.

I get my results this afternoon hopefully (otherwise I will worry all weekend about what is probably nothing). I will post when I get the results.

Thanks to everyone for their time and concern.

I got my results on Saturday. They say everything looks good. Now I am back to trying to figure out why the anxiety medications are not only not working for me, but some (buspar) seem to be doing the opposite. I am weaning off of the buspar and feel better as the days go by. Maybe someone else has had experience with the meds making the anxiety worse??

Thanks for thinking of me.

That is great news, Alison! I hope that gives you some reassurance. Meds are so individual. Will the dr. be trying you on something else? Let us know what you have planned. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

I have been seeing my primary care dr and she has told me that I need to see a specialist. I am searching for one but the choices are slim due to my health insurance. Hopefully, I will be able to set up an appointment today at lunch. Today I am feeling very strange due to changes in medication. Anway, I hope to feel better soon and that the new dr will be able to help with the anxiety.

Hi Alison I am so glad your test results were good!
As far as medication goes without therapy I would have
not done as well on the meds! I thought the meds could
and would take all my anxiety away- not so!
I had to make some changes in my life and attitude
to help the medicine work. I hope that you will consider
therapy along with the medication. I hope you find a GOOD DOC! Judy
