You and Jas are in my prayers. I'm glad they have found out what was wrong. Once you have a diagnosis, things can proceed from there. You're right, teens are volatile for no reason, much less when they have a reason! She will settle into it eventually, just needs some time to get used to the changes.
BTW, my 15-year old had high blood pressure at his physical yeterday. He was told to stay away from salt, exercise, and lose weight. He is not happy either.
Let us know how your son does with the lifestyle changes. It isn't all that rare for blood pressure problems to surface so young. I recall a study done by the Cleveland Clinic back in the late '70's or early '80's. I wish you both the best. Sending P&PT's your way. (((hugs))) jan
Jan, I know this must be difficult to deal with for a parent, but I imagine you're quite relieved that the doctors got the correct diagnosis. It's totally normal to be angry at the sound of such news I imagine, she'll learn to change her lifestyle and live with her illness. My brother has a pretty serious genetic disorder (severe hemophelia) and he still tries to rebel against it sometimes, he's 22 right now, and he also went through a period of being very angry at my parents for a few years...but it went away as he grew up a bit. I hope that Jas lets go of the anger soon and start realizing that she needs to take care of her condition.
Yes, you're right about the high blood pressure in young people. Maybe it's hereditary, too. My husband was on blood pressure meds at 19 years old. I'm not sure what I put in my last post, but besides genetics, my son is big. He wears a men's 2X. So that has a lot to do with it.
He blood pressure was a bit high at his physical last summer, too. The doctor gave him the same advice as this year. He gained 3 pounds, which is actually good, since he usually gains a lot more. I think he' done growing, phew!
I'll be watching to see how Jas does. Is her name Jasmine? I just adore that name.
Jan Jas and YOU are in my prayers! My father had this condition and lived to be 92 my nephew took ecstasy and died from arythmia of his heart! I was tested twice but it never showed up! I can feel what seems to be my heart turning over in my chest then it is gone----- Jas does not know what to think I imagine she is scared and angry! It is really painful watching them act out when we know they will regret their actions and words!! I would tell my daughter pretend I am one of your friends when you talk to me hahahaha boy that shut her up!! She knew that she was too sweet to them but a "beast" to me. Hopefully with time she will change but as you say "not soon enough!" In the meantime how about some earplugs??? TCGB Judy
Oh my gosh, Jan. So glad you found out what was going on. Just love her like you do, and she'll get over the caffeine withdrawal. Maybe you could fix her decaf flavored coffee? Many hugs to you during this trying time.
Yes, my Jas is Jasmine Anne. For the longest time, ppl thought she was named after the Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. That wasn't so as she was born almost
Hey Jan-I am so relived that you finally got some answers on Jas'condition. I am sure she is just scared and worried, and that may be part of her 'acting out'. I have had kidney/bladder problems since birth, and when I was 16 I had to be placed on a 'daily self-catheter program' to be able to help void my bladder,to help decrease kidney infections, so that I wouldn't lose my kidneys (I am still on this daily ritual, yuck!) I was really mad at first, and didn't understand. But I learned to live with it, and it is nothing now. Just part of the day...So I hope everything works out ok, and that those beta blockers work out for her. I am so glad she is seeing a therapist, I think that really helps her. I am praying for her, and you too! hugs, shasta
Thx, Shasta & to all who posted. I am glad that she's seeing the therapist. I spoke to him on Monday & he'll see her @ noon today. I am hopeful that she'll freely discuss her concerns with him. It's so hard being the parent of a teen. I would like so much for her to talk with me, but that just doesn't seem to happen. That keeps me a bit *down* all the time. BTW, I am off for another daytrip. Will be leaving in a few. You guys lean on one another, like you always do. See you all later tonight. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
