Hi Elaine! I too often wake from awful nightmares
they seem to come especially when I am stressed out!
I usually try to relax and go back to sleep sometimes
I have to get up for awhile and walk it off! It is for me
the meds wearing off- I wonder if that is what happens to you
also??? GLAD you are doing better in the daytime!
Panic is nasty!! Take care, Judy

hi Elaine, I can't remember whether you were taking medication or not. One of the well known side effects of lexparo is that it causes nightmares and vivid dreams. even without medication, anxiety can affect every aspect of your life, including your dreams. Im sorry that you're experiencing it :( but you'll get better! we all do :)

take care,
Mia

Hi Elaine and Judy, sorry I missed the chat last night. Dh and I went away for a few days to try to get a little R&R. I actually had a pretty relaxing time and the anxiety was better too. Elaine, I hope you are doing better. I also wake up sometimes with the panicky feeling....I get up, sit in a chair for a bit or have a drink, go back to bed and try to go back to sleep. I also think the meds wear off a bit then too. I feel better, just knowing that I did well while we were gone for a few days. I used to dread anything like that....afraid the anxiety would ruin it for me. Take care everyone....hope to be in the chat on Thurs. Jan

Elaine,

Ask away, thats what I'm here for.

Tell me again what dose of lexapro you are on? I am on 30mg and that seemed to be the jump (20mg-30mg) that really seemed to help stabalize me. I still think that I need to go a bit higher. 20mg is the recomended dose of it but my pdoc has gone up to 50mg. The best advice I got on this board is to trust your Dr. so thats what I do.

I have learned to deal with the nightmares. I just pray and talk

Have you tried the belly breathing, Elaine? Place your hand on your abdomen & breathe in through your nose as you watch your abdomen rise. Then, breathe out through your mouth as you watch your abdomen fall. I have found this very successful when I awaken with a panic attack. But... you need to practice it over & over until you have it down pat & it becomes second nature to use it as soon as you awaken. Practice it throughout the day, when you're feeling just fine. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in here. Middle of the night awakenings or PA's have always been the worst time for me. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Elaine, I think the first few weeks of Lexapro can be especially hard on some people. the only reason I knew about the nightmares was because my psychiatrist warned me about it, and then I saw it on the packet label as well. I would assume that they go away within 4 - 6 weeks, or however long it takes for the lexapro to achieve it's full effect.
