Here is the link to what iVillage has to say about anxiety. There are tons of links you can follow once you get to this page. IMHO, GAD does NOT cause frightening physical conditions. It does cause concerns about frightening physical conditions, that do NOT exist. But, we worry about them anyway, Ana. That is something I have had to deal with. Every little twinge or sensation scares the life out of me & I worry that it is something very serious. I try to keep things in perspective. I meditate, practice the belly breathing & relaxation exercises to get through my irrational fears of illnesses that are NOT real. As time goes on & you seek treatment through meds & therapy, you can learn to work through your fears. I find that the less time I spend reading about illness, the better off I am. It only tends to scare me more. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

the symptoms of anxiety being scary- such as a racing heart,
sweating, dizziness or what ever!! Are you seeing a doctor for this?
Are you taking meds? Take care and try to relax! do some slow breathing!

hey Ana,
i dont know about your first question...anxiety can be brought on by any physical or emotional event. for some people (like my self) nothing specific caused the anxiety.
as for the physical symptoms the GAD can cause, the literature indicates that People with GAD can't seem to shake their concerns, even though they usually realize that their anxiety is more intense than the situation warrants. Their worries are accompanied by physical symptoms, especially fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, muscle aches, difficulty swallowing, trembling, twitching, irritability, sweating, and hot flashes. People with GAD may feel lightheaded or out of breath. They also may feel nauseated or have to go to the bathroom frequently.
i got this information from the National Insitute of Mental Health website. it is a leading organization for mental health services consumers. hope this helps,
Mia
