does anyone ever have trouble just thinking how to do the most mundane things that they used to take for granted- the bills, even laundry, cooking, never mind anything more complicated. What is this?

Ohhhh, yes! My things are laundry and balancing the checkbook. I'm better at balancing the checkbook, but I sit on that computer (I use Microsoft Money) for quite a while.

I tend to think through all my tasks and plan how I'll do them, thus wasting more time than if I just did them. You're right, they are so mundane and simple--it's almost a curse, you know?

When I was having my bad panic attacks I had the same problem. I just couldn't do anything & would get so upset by it! Again, the xanax helped alot. Got me back on track. It was almost like it "normalized" me if that makes any sense. Do you take the ativan regularly?

ITA with what you experienced, Elaine, as well as the others. It does seem that the anxiety interferes with our concentration. That is what I use as a yardstick when I measure if I'm coping well or not. If I can't plan a meal or balance a checkbook or read a book, then I know my anxiety level is high & my stress needs reduced. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Yes, I actually spoke to my thearpist about this.

I would start to unload the dishwasher and then forget about it and just leave it open and start to do something else. Or I would put the cereal in the frige and the milk in the cabinet.

She told me to actually walk myself through the task as i do it step by step. It works but even now I say the wrong word and mix up sentences sometimes.

It stinks and it hard but from the replies I'd say that its pretty common.

Take Care!!!!!!

Heather, do you think the meds do that or the anxiety? I have the same exact problem. I'm always mixing my words up & doing the other things you said! I never mentioned it to my doc.

Hey Sheri Ann,

From what my therapist said its the anxiety.

In fact, I am cleaning now I have so many people coming over and I have every room started and then I forget of just go on to the next. I literally have my room, kitchen, kids room and bathroom 1/2 done. I don't know why but I keep going from room to room.

As long as it all gets done i suppose it doesn't matter...LOL

ITA with all of you!! Before my taking Paxil
I could not get through a basic task I would worry
and question everything I did! It was terrible!!
Once I started the Paxil this for the most part stopped!
When I get too stressed as JAN SAID I start the questioning
and lack of concentration again!! My daughter the youngest
is going through this right now! She will not take meds
she is clueless that it is anxiety even tho I tell her!
She is so mixed up cannot do anything simple at all
the bills are piled all over the house, the dishes sit in the
sink- she says she will do them after they eat again- but
they just pile up- her laundry is insane!! Dirty clothes mixed
in with clean clothes the closets are almost empty everything
in baskets LOL I told her she is a basket case!!!
She has so many things going on she cannot pull it together!
I am stressed out from the accounting going on the questions
keep coming from the accountant for my father's estate this
covers from 2000 to the present!! I cannot cope now so I am
wandering the house trying to keep busy starting 300 things
and actually doing none!! I KNOW I AM STRESSED!!! It is burning
me out I feel like my body won't stop moving but I don't want to
do anything except cry or scream!! IT STINKS!!! GOD BLESS US
WILD FOLKS!!! Judy

I'm doing the same thing here in NC. The cable co is coming at 10 to wire the house & it's a disaster. So much for cleaning, I keep going from room to room & starting more projects but finishing none! Then I get disgusted and come back to the computer, uugghh.

It sounds like everyone is in agreement that the lack of ability to concentrate or stay on task etc... is anxiety related, and has some experiences to support it.

Mel, I don't think it is the meds although I'm sure meds could do it. I'm not taking any meds & I have terrible forgetfulness, the going from room to room, inability to finish anything without starting another project ...
