Hello everyone,

I am going to the Dr. today for my panic attacks. Can anyone give me some advise on medications? I don't know very much about any of them. I am hoping for something that will keep me calm so I never get to the point of having an attack. I want something that is non-habit forming without any major side effects.

I would like to hear from others their experiences with different medications so I am somewhat educated when the Dr. is discussing them with me.

Thanks so much

Here's a good article that explains all the families of meds. Just click on the link. http://health.ivillage.com/mentalhealth/mhanxiety/0,,nwhrc_75hlsp65,00.html

Over my 35 year history of panic attacks, I have taken many different meds. I had the most success with effexor XR, anafranil & luvox. I had some side effects. Nothing serious, but some bothered me more than others. Generally they were liveable. In my experience, all worked the best for about 3 years & then I needed a change. Keep in mind that everyone's system is different & the effects of meds are very individual. HTH. Good luck. Let us know what you decide. (((hugs))) jan
