Pulled over by a police officer today!
| Fri, 08-05-2005 - 8:41pm |
Well, I have had an interesting afternoon! Talk about anxiety filled! Arrrghhh!
I had ran errands for a couple hours, and was on my way home, but had one last stop, to pick-up dinner. All the sudden I saw the cop lights in my rear view, I immediately started shaking,I thought 'Oh no! I hope I don't have a panic attack' I didn't think I had done anything wrong, so wasn't quite sure why he pulled me over. The police officer asked me if I knew what i had done wrong, and I said 'No' but he said I ran a red light (honestly, I don't think I did, but I guess if he says so! I did!) I was shaking so bad girls, and I explained to the officer that I was very nervous, and anxious, and he asked why. I explained to him that I had some problems with anxiety, and I had just recently got back onto the road. I handed him my license,p.o.i, and registration all the while shaking, and apologizing for being so nervous. I took off my sunglasses so he didn't think I was anxious for any other reason except having anxiety. (I didnt want him to think I was drunk or on drugs!) He asked again what caused my anxiety, so I briefly told him, I had had a high stress job, that caused me so much anxiety I finally had to quit, and was just now starting to drive again. He excused himself to the back of his unmarked car. When he finally came back he had my stuff in his hand, and he said, 'Mam-I am not going to give you a ticket' (Thanx the lord!)'We just worry about you,' and I finished the sentence for him 'And other drivers, too! I know sir, Thank-you SO much!'
And he said to just watch the lights in the future, not the flow of traffic. I thanked him again SO much. And he told me to have a nice evening. WOW! Did I luck out or what!
I really feel if I would not have told him my anxiety story, then he probably would have given me a ticket, because I don't think they give warnings much around my town anymore.
And it wasn't even a written one! Needless to say, I am SO happy he didn't get me a ticket because we can't afford it at all! But I am pretty wiped out this evening! I came home and thought I better take a 1/4 of a Xanax, just in case! And my tummy totally hurts. But I made it home! YAY!
Funny thing is, I always have my wallet set-up with my DL, and insurance cards, just in case, god forbid I either got a ticket or accident. I do that to help the anxiety, and it worked well today. Everything was right there when I needed it.
I feel pretty good that I survived without a major p/a,because that was one of my fears- pulled over for a ticket, or getting into a accident. but I SURVIVED! And dh said he was really proud of me too! Thanx for listening to my rambling story!
Sooooo, how is your day going??? Have a great weekend everyone! shasta

WTG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOO
That is so awesome! You were pulled over and you made it!! Maybe it happened so that you could build more confidence and see for yourself that you can do it.
great news!
I really think I needed that.
And the cute thing was when I told my dh husband I took off my sunglasses (so the cop didn't think I was anxious because I was wasted or something) My dh said, well he then got to see your pretty eyes.
(Well, I will tell you, that is something my dh has NEVER said, and I told him how much that meant to me, because when I was little my mom always told me 'I had 'weird eyes' and didn't look like anyone in our family'So I have always been self-conscious)
So I think this nice police man came into my world today for a reason, just like your friend this week, Heather. (And thank goodness he had it is his heart to NOT give me a ticket! I think he was thinking 'hmmm, I don't want to have to close down the busy street at rush hour if this girl has a p/a!) HA HA!
Anyways, I may share the rest of my day too, here in a bit. There was more, but that was the major thing. And I do feel impowered that I survived, and it helped too that dh really believed in me.
Thanx gals! You are The Best!
hugs, shasta
See Shasta,
Not only did you get your confidence boosted but you got a great (it seems long overdue)
Yeah Shasta!! That's one of my fears, being pulled over, having a major panic attack & leaving in an ambulance, lol! I know it's irrational, tho. You did so good! You are making so much progress!!

Shasta, I'm so proud of you for the way you handled yourself. You were honest, but you didn't panic! That's awesome that you got out of a ticket. I think your cop must've been really understanding (that's a rarity around here). Anyway, bask in that afterglow of handling one of your biggest fears. You did it!!
Hugs,
Kendra
