I just hunted down this board, and was hoping I could get some pointers on dealing with my issues.

Hi Noelle! I am so glad you found our board! Welcome! My name is Shasta, and I am sorry to hear you are having so much anxiety. I think you will feel at home here, we have lots of members that can share their experiences with you.
I was just wondering if maybe you could try to get into your dr. tomorrow, and speak with your dr. about the anxiety and concerns you are having? They might be a able to provide you with some advice to help the anxiety, and maybe a mild med to help you relax on the plane trip. I sympathize with your hearing difficulty, but I am happy to hear that you have a companion to go with you on your trip, so that he can be your 'extra ear'.
What kind of questions is he asking you that is making your anxiety increase, if you don't mind me asking?
I've never been to NYC but I am pretty sure some of the members of the board have, or actually live there, so maybe they will chime in and give you some info on what to expect while you vacation there. I hope you feel better soon. Please come back and post often. Sending you P&PT's!
hugs, shasta

Hi, Noelle! Nice to have you here. Many of the things you're facing have been addressed by others in our community. You are NOT alone. Folks with anxiety tend to obssess about minor things & *what if* about things that may never happen. Your trip does have many challenging aspects. We have some big city folks on the board who will post soon. Also, we have some seasoned travellers which I am not. I will say that with the hearing issue, you should head straight to the counter & be very upfront about it. If you can't hear the loudspeaker, they will have someone address you face to face. Also, for your safety & that of your fellow travellers, the airline personnel need to know your capabilities in the event of an emergency. In fact, I think that I would call customer service or e-mail the airline in advance. They can answer your questions & make your trip more comfortable.

Join us anytime. Post with questions or concerns. Drop into chat. Our folks are generous with their care

Noelle, Go to the website of the airlines & read what they have on there. You can probably get some questions answered beforehand. I've used the etickets alot, no different than a regular ticket. Just show it at the gate. Actually I've been told I don't even need to show it, but I feel better checking in & making sure everything is all set. I agree with Shasta, if you have a doc, call him/her. Maybe you can get a couple of xanax for the trip. Or drink a glass of wine, that has worked for me. Once you are there, maybe you will see something close to her house that you'd like to do, or a restaurant you'd like to try. Don't stress out so much about it now, I'm sure it will all work out fine. Enjoy your mini-vaca & let us know how it goes. Please stop by again!

Just wondering, Noelle, if you avoid these situations that make you anxious or have you faced the fears so many times head-on, that you are more confident now? I ask only because *agoraphobia* is common among those with anxiety. I have panic attacks with agoraphobia. Wherever I have been struck by an attack, I avoid returning there. I have learned to MAKE myself drive, wait in lines, go to movies, restaurants, travel across bridges, in tunnels, in elevators. Still, I haven't walked down the concourse of the mall in 8 years. I panic because the exits are so far apart. I go in the stores that have outside entrances. I feel I am doing pretty well. Some folks cannot leave their homes without severe anxiety/panic. Just wondering where you are in the big anxiety picture. Good luck on your trip. We'll want to know details:) (((hugs))) jan

Thanks, Noelle. That's good to hear. You haven't given into the fears & that is great! It's very difficult to get back out there once you lose ground.

As for the bees, I don't think that's an unusual fear or reaction to them. My goodness! You ought to be in my house when a bat gets in. LOL Good luck & keep in touch. (((hugs))) jan
