No Xanax Left & No Response from New Dr

I have finally found a place for treatment that takes my insurance. They will assign a tdoc and pdoc and be able to manage my medications. Here's my problem. My primary care physician will not give me any more xanax until I see someone. The earliest appt I could get with the pdoc is September 13th. I am out and don't know what to do. I don't want to call a crisis line or go to the hospital because I am not that desperate. I just would rather not live the next month feeling this anxious everyday. I think they may re-assess my diagnosis also and may be find that I am bi-polar. I am really up for any medication changes that are recommended once I meet with the pdoc but for right now just want to be able to be comfortable until then.
What should I do??

I have an appt. with my pcp this morning. Hopefully, she will give me a prescription until I can get into the pdoc. I did finally get a call back from the tdoc that I saw at the facility I am going to start going to. She said she would keep me in mind if there were any cancellations before my appt. All in all, I guess my problem is solved. I just had the worst anxiety last night probably from knowing I didn't have anything to take and this morning I have been terribly anxious. I don't like feeling so dependent on a medication. I feel like the people at my pcp probably think I am so crazy (then again I guess I am).
I went to a walk in clinic advised by my therapist
and the doc gave me a one month supply saying that
she has too many patients on the med and the feds
are checking this out!! Went back again no problem!!
After making another appointment with someone else--
What they don't understand is that for many with anxiety
xanax a minimal dose is just what we need!!
I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!!! Judy
Wondering how you made out today?? Did you get a refill?

Thanks for all the thoughts and responses. I did get a 30 day supply of xanax from my pcp and she also increased my zoloft. It took a long time to calm down though because I had been feeling like I was having an anxiety attack for about 24 hours. Anyway, took two yesterday and some this morning. I am feeling much less anxious. It just really concerns me that when you have a problem like depression and/or anxiety, the drs can't see you for 1-3 months. What do you do during that time? The nurse that I saw before my pcp had come from a mental health facility and she said it was terrible getting the providers paid. That is why a lot of them don't take insurance and why I had such a hard time finding one that did. And of course, since these people are few and far between they have a heck of a wait before you can get in to see someone. When is the world and insurance companies going to realize that these are truly real diseases we are dealing with that need treatment?
Well, thanks again. I'm glad to say that I am feeling better for the time being.
Hope all is well with everyone else.

Alison,
i am happy to hear that you at least got a 30day supply.
I agree with you that its awful what the ins. companies do. I had severe rectal bleeding and my Dr ordered an immediate ct scan of my abdomen and they told me that they couldn't do it until they got the ok from my ins company saying that they'd pay it. They said that I may have to wait a day or two... it ended up that I did get the ok and got one that day but boy was I PO'd.
I guess the drs. are just trying to make sure they go through the right channels to get paid but you're right about it being frustrating. We definitely need some improvements in our health care system. If something bad happens while waiting for the ok from the insurance, then what will they say? uggh
We should do like in Canada. I heard that everyone is insured by the government. I am not sure how that works but people rave about what good coverage they have.
Alison
Alison, I'm glad your pcp came through for you! You should be all set now, since you have a new pdoc, too. Hope you're feeling better :)
