No Xanax Left & No Response from New Dr

I have finally found a place for treatment that takes my insurance. They will assign a tdoc and pdoc and be able to manage my medications. Here's my problem. My primary care physician will not give me any more xanax until I see someone. The earliest appt I could get with the pdoc is September 13th. I am out and don't know what to do. I don't want to call a crisis line or go to the hospital because I am not that desperate. I just would rather not live the next month feeling this anxious everyday. I think they may re-assess my diagnosis also and may be find that I am bi-polar. I am really up for any medication changes that are recommended once I meet with the pdoc but for right now just want to be able to be comfortable until then.

What should I do??

Thanks again everyone. I am feeling better and hope that tomorrow will be better still. Yesterday was a very hard day and it helped to see that so many people responded to my post.

First of all, I am so sorry you have to go through all this red tape. As far as your primary physician not prescribing the meds, I am curious as to why? My doc told me that Xanax is extremely addicting. Does he/she think you have a problem? If not, I don't see why this doctor would want you (or anyone) to suffer. Are you on any other meds? Is the doctor prescribing that one? I realize you feel they might diagnose something different, but I would go back to your internist and tell him your situation. Also, you might want to try your old pdoc to see if they have any samples that might tide you over until you get in. You might also want to try calling back every so often to see if there have been any cancellations. I know, it's really annoying that you have to wait so long. It took me over 4 months just to get my 4yr old son into the dentist! It's ridiculous. Best of luck, and hang in there. You'll be ok. Love, JD

Alison! That is so GREAT that things worked out for you, Like I said, I had just gone thru the same type of thing and luckily my pcp came thru for me too. But I know the anxiety it caused me and it took a bit for me to 'calm down' too.
Please let us know how things go with your p-doc next month. My appt. with my new p-doc went really good, and I wish the same for you!<3
hugs, shasta
