I have to fly again on Sunday and Im dreading it :(( I feel like im always flying (6 - 8 times a year) and even though I've been doing for so long, I still can't get used to the idea. to make matters worse it's one of those little propeller planes, where you can feel every little bump. im bummed, I dont want to fo this, but im going down to a wedding in NC and it's too late to back out. My mom is going to be with me, but that doesn't make things easier because all I can think about is the two plane crashes that occured in the past week! anyway, im scared as heck and i just wanted to vent a little....sometimes I wish I could get everywhere by land.

Hi Mia!
My DH gets flying anxiety as well. Funny thing is he used to love flying (especially the little planes) and I was the one with the anxieties. He used to be the one to hold my hand and try to calm me down. Then we were on our honeymoon during Sept. 11th, and that's when he developed the flying anxiety. His anxiety is so much more intense than mine ever was, so now every time we fly I have to suck it up and be there for him. Talk about role reversals! He takes Ativan (aka Lorazepam) before flying and it really helps him. Have you even tried it?

You'll be fine!! And it's great that your mom will be with you, always makes it easier if you have someone with you! Take along a good book that you know you can get really into!

You're a smart cookie, Mia! I know that YOU know it's safer in a plane than in a car. That being said, it's so hard for us with anxiety to think rationally. Try to keep it in perspective. Focus on positive experiences you've had. Enjoy the flight with your mom. When my anxiety was @ it's worst & I was afraid to drive, I would take my mom along & do just fine. Funny thing is, my mom DOESN'T drive. LOL You will do just fine. I have lots of confidence in you. Please have fun @ the wedding & give us an update. Sending P&PT's your way. (((hugs))) jan

I made it back safely, what a relief that was :) of course, as with every other plane ride i've been one this one wasn't bad at all. my mom in fact, did not fly back to NYC with me, so i did that leg of the trip my self. it was a little terrifying at first, i almost had a panic attack during take off. it was exacebrated by the fact that i had to wake up at 5 am two days in a row, so i was also exhausted. everytime i fly i promise my self that i won't be scared the next time, but then when i get onto the plane i feel like if im not worried i'll somehow jinx myself. does that make ANY sense?? anyway, i have three international trips planned for the next year or so, so i think i need to start taking some serious steps towards remeding this phobia.

oh btw, the wedding was really nice!! :)
