How my 1st p-doc appt went-not too bad!

Well, I just got back from my 1st p-doc appt. And she was really nice and caring. I was there for a little over an hour.
She put me on a starter kit of Zoloft, for anxiety, depression & OCD, and also gave me a prescription for Ativan to replace the Xanax I had been taking. Which is great to know I will have the Ativan on hand for emergencies, and I won't feel the need to go to the ER if I get a major PA, because they would just give me Ativan anyways! So that is a relief for both me and dh. It always makes him worry when he thinks he might have to take me to the ER.
I have to call her Friday, go back in 2 weeks for a med check-up, and then we will talk more later about ways to combat the agoraphobia and OCD...But she wants me to start out slow and give the Zoloft time to work. I was on it once about 10 years ago, and it didn’t do much for me, but Dr.said she has found what works for one sibling can also work for another, so we will give it a try! She stressed this was not my fault, and that she feels it is hereditary. She also noticed that I wasn't having anxiety when I took the Zoloft before...So we will give it a shot! I am willing to try anything (well except Paxil that is! That didn't work well for me at all!)
I am just glad that it over with, I had made myself sick about going in.
Dh was so wonderful!
Also-The Dr.was also very interested to hear about our support board, she hadn't heard about it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn't take a peek. She encouraged me to stick with the board (Like I really needed alot of encouragement there! LOL! I love you guys!)
Anyways, I just wanted to thank you gals so much for all your input and advice, I really appreciate it. And I wanted to let you know how it went today!
Whew! Now I can relax the rest of the day! YAYYYYY! Oh, and I did write down everything, that told the dr. my story, and she really appreciated that! So thanx for the advice,Jan!
hugs to you all, shasta
P.S. I also added a post to the initial post from earlier in the week, but thought maybe my news would get buried, since so many of you wonderful gals responded! Thanx so much for your advice and support! You Gals are THE BEST! <3

That's a very positive update, Shasta. Thx for sharing. I hope that the meds work out for you. I am anxious to hear what her plans are for overcoming the agoraphobia. She may have some ideas that we haven't heard of. Hope you'll share them for free:) Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Hi Shasta,
I'm new to this board so I don't know your background/story. But I just wanted to let you know happy I am for you. Sounds like you really have a good strategy in plan for dealing with your anxiety and PA. I think it's great that you found a good Dr too! That's so important. Keep us posted on your progress, it's great inspiration!

Hi Shasta!!! I'm so glad it went well for you. It sounds like you hooked up with someone you will be able to work with and that's soooo important! I'm glad she took you on as a patient! On a lighter note ... when she asked if you exercised did you tell her you do strip aerobics ???? When I told me new pdoc that he didn't have a reply! lol!

Hey Gals!
THANX SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Really, I don't think I would have made it this far without this board and my wonderful friends here! You guys are the best!
I am really excited I finally made the step to see a psychiatrist, she is 100percent better than the first therapist I saw when all of this happened to me almost 2 yrs ago.
My dh said tonite, "I wished you could have found your new dr. 2 years ago, I know you would have your life back by now' and I believe he is so right! Very encouraging!
Sometimes it takes a while to find a p-doc that is a 'good fit'
But if I had to do it over again, I would not have waited so long to seek further help.

I promise to share anything I learn from my new dr with you all.
And of course, This is 'free of charge', Jan! ;0)
And SheriAnn, she did ask about exercise, but I wasn't sassy enough to tell her about the 'striptease aerobics'....maybe I will next visit? giggle! :0D
Thanks to you all for responding, you guys are awesome!
I appreciate you all!
hugs, shasta

Hey girlie! I'm sooooo glad everything went well for you. Wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you. :)

I'm very happy you are on the Zoloft, as I am partial to that antidepressant. It did wonders for me last year.

So, wow! So many exciting things on tap for you. This is so good. Sorry I can't type more, but I am at a friend's house in Florida, and the computer is in the guest room. :) Please e-mail me a quick note, as I do not have your e-mail address on file here, and I wanted to send you a note as well.

Yay again!!!

Shasta That is great news!!
I hope the Zoloft helps you! You did great
going and talking about your problems! It is hard
to find the right doc sometimes so I am glad you did.
Take care, Judy
